Providence Missionary Baptist Church
Official Notification of Transition
From the Desk of Pastor Wade, Sr.
It is with deep sorrow and reverent reflection that we announce the transition of our beloved Sister Verdell McCray-Williams, who entered eternal rest this morning,
Thursday, October 23, 2025, at 1:16 AM.
Sister Verdell was a charter member of Providence Missionary Baptist Church, a devoted Youth Teacher for many years, and a pillar of our Old School Mission back when “the mission was on the mission.” Her unwavering commitment to the work of the Lord was evident in every role she embraced.
She served faithfully alongside Providence legends: Ora Alfred, Mary Bell, Annie Davis, Joyce Harris, Lillie/Lillian Wade, and Sam Welcome a generation of saints who laid the foundation upon which we stand today.
For over three decades, Sister Verdell served as a Trustee of Providence.
Her dedication extended beyond our walls, as she was a passionate servant in denominational work throughout the State of Texas, and a cherished member of the “KEPT by Faith” ministry (50+).
She was family to the Wade family, and her love for her first family was deep and enduring. Above all, Sister Verdell was devoted to God, faithful to His Word, and loyal to her pastor and church family.
We extend our love, prayers, and heartfelt condolences to her beloved family Kay, Mira, JB, Erin, Birdell, Nieces, nephews ad friends May you find comfort in the legacy of faith, love, and service she leaves behind.
A special prayer is lifted for her twin sister, Birdell Davis, whose heart now carries the weight of this sacred loss. May God’s peace surround you and the entire family during this time of mourning.
Let us remember Sister Verdell not only for her works, but for the spirit in which she served a spirit of humility, strength, and unwavering faith.
“Well done, good and faithful servant.”
Matthew 25:23
To Kay, Mira, JB, and Erin your mother’s legacy is etched into the heart of Providence. Her prayers, her presence, have shaped this church in so many ways. May you find peace in knowing that she walked with God, and now rests in His eternal embrace.
To her twin sister, Birdell Davis, and the entire family we lift you in love and prayer. May the Lord surround you with comfort, strengthen you in this hour, and remind you that Verdell’s life was a sermon of faith, endurance, and covenant grace.
Lord, we thank You for the life of Sister Verdell McCray-Williams.
Thank You for her decades of service, her unwavering faith.Comfort her family.
Strengthen her twin sister. Surround her loved ones with peace that passes understanding.
Let her legacy live on in the halls of Providence and in the hearts of all who were touched by her life. We do not grieve as those who have no hope; For we know that to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord.
Rest well, Sister Verdell. You fought the good fight. You kept the faith. And now, you shall received your crown.
With love and prayer,
Pastor Jerry Wade, Sr
