SHE DIDNāT TURN INTO SALT JUST BECAUSE SHE LOOKED BACKā¦
HER BODY LEFT SODOM⦠BUT HER HEART NEVER DID.
Most people read the story of Lotās wife in Genesis 19:26 and reduce it to a moment:
āShe looked back.ā
But when you study it deeper, this wasnāt just a glanceā¦
It was attachment.
The Hebrew word used for ālooked backā is × Öø×Ö·× (nÄbaį¹) ā which doesnāt just mean to glance.
It means to look with regard, longing, consideration⦠to gaze with attachment.
This wasnāt curiosity.
This was connection.
Her feet were moving forwardā¦
But her heart was still tied to what God was delivering her from.
And this is where it gets convicting:
A lot of people have physically left sinā¦
But emotionally, mentally, and spirituallyā¦
Theyāre still in it.
You left the relationshipā¦
But you still crave it.
You left the lifestyleā¦
But you still entertain it in your mind.
You left the environmentā¦
But your desires are still rooted there.
And God is saying:
Deliverance is not relocation⦠itās transformation.
Lotās wife became a pillar of salt.
Salt in the ancient world was a symbol of preservation.
In other wordsā¦
She became stuck in the very thing she refused to let go of.
Let that sink in.
What you wonāt release⦠can preserve you in a place God called you out of.
Jesus even referenced her in Luke 17:32:
āRemember Lotās wife.ā
Why would Jesus say that?
Because this isnāt just a storyā¦
Itās a warning.
You can be walking out of Sodomā¦
And still be longing for it.
You can be on your way to freedomā¦
And still be emotionally loyal to bo***ge.
God didnāt destroy her because she turned her head.
He judged what was still anchored in her heart.
This is why Scripture says in Proverbs 4:23:
āGuard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.ā
Because wherever your heart isā¦
Your life will follow.
So the real question is not:
āWhat did you leave?ā
The real question is:
āWhat are you still holding onto?ā
Because you cannot step fully into what God has for youā¦
While still being in love with what He delivered you from.
