Leaders of Methodist denominations in Africa gathered to discuss challenges on the continent and strengthen cooperation. During the Africa Methodist Council heads of conferences meeting, the group pledged “to stand prophetically for justice, peace, truth and holistic human dignity.” Bishops Ande I. Almost 700 students from 21 African countries graduated from Africa University on June 6 in a ceremony that featured the first cohort of the online Global Campus and a record number of students with the highest academic honor. With the graduating class of 2026, the number of Africa University alumni exceeds 13,000, including five United Methodist bishops now serving in Africa.

The United Methodist Church and The United Church of Canada have approved an interim covenant affirming each other's clergy and opening the door to full communion, with a formal proposal planned for both denominations' 2028 assemblies. The agreement reflects growing United Methodist migrant communities in Canada, including First UMC of Canada in British Columbia — led by the Rev. Norman Feliciano and part of the Pacific Northwest Conference.

The United Methodist Church and United Church of Canada have formed an interim covenant with the goal of full communion. Driving the move is increased migration to Canada.
