As I've grown older, I've discovered that May is a month that can be a little deceptive. I'm prepared for November and December to have heavier lifts, both at church and in our personal lives. But May sneaks in, catching me unaware until I'm halfway through and I'm feeling the pressure of the full schedule and the to do lists. It's easy to get caught up in the busyness, then crash at the end of the day.
However, as I think about the holy day of Pentecost that we'll be celebrating on Sunday, I'm reminded of the importance of pausing and dwelling in God's presence. So today, I want to share a couple of breath prayers with you where you can hit the pause button and refocus on God. I encourage you to take a few minutes between now and Sunday morning to sit quietly with God, and pray these words.
- Emmanuel (breathing in), draw near to me (breathing out)
- Holy Spirit (breathing in), grant me your peace (breathing out)
Feel free to come up with your own words or create your own breath prayer. And keep the prayer on your lips as you go about your day to help reorient your spirit back to God. The to do list will always be there. Tasks will never end. But we have to pause and dwell with God in the midst of life.
You are loved.
