Hope Lutheran Church is a member of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod located on the east side of Des Moines, Iowa. We would love for you to join us in any activities or services! We are called in the Great Commission to go and make disciples of all nations. Hope’s ministry process will encourage your movement toward fulfillment of this commandment, while deepening your own relationship with our

Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Hope Lutheran’s ministry process is based on the Parable of the Sower found in Matthew 13, Mark 4, and Luke 8. Here Jesus tells us how we are like soil and what grows is our faith. In this parable God sows the seed, it takes root and grows as it is nourished, and in the process bears fruit. The more we receive God’s Word (the seed) the more we will grow in faith (roots) and the more we will share the hope of Christ with others (bear fruit). We need to be fed through God’s Word in order to grow in our faith and to be able to spread the Hope of Christ to others and invite them to share in the ministry process. We’re home! ❤️

After a long day of travel, we’ve officially landed safely back in Des Moines. We are so thankful for God’s protection throughout our journey and for the incredible opportunity to serve in Costa Rica.

God is doing amazing things both in and out of Costa Rica, and we are grateful to have witnessed His work firsthand. We’re excited to share the stories, memories, and ways we saw Him move throughout this trip.

Thank you to everyone who prayed for us, encouraged us, and supported this mission. We are truly blessed to be part of such a loving and supportive congregation.

God’s blessings!😊

Good evening! This is our last night in Costa Rica. Today we said our goodbyes and spent the morning reflecting with those around us. We are so thankful for the time spent together and the memories made. God is working in wondrous ways!

We dropped off our friends from Memorial Park Church at the airport and then made our way to our debrief location. We spent time in the sun, making memories and looking back on all that God has done throughout this trip. We were able to take in all that Costa Rica has to offer—beautiful weather, wonderful people, and the beauty of God’s creation all around us.

We ended the night talking about how we want to take what God has taught us here back home with us, and continue showing the love of Christ in our daily lives. We have learned so much, and it has been incredible to see how God is moving through the people of Costa Rica as well as through our group from Hope.

Thank you for every prayer, every word of encouragement, and all of the support you have given us throughout our journey in Costa Rica. We leave early in the morning to begin our travels home. We will keep you updated on our journey, and we are excited to be back home with all of you soon!
God bless you, and good night!😊

Good evening! We are wrapping up another very successful and productive day here in Costa Rica. We had another early start filled with a day of sewing and a hard day of construction. The sun was hot, but the work was good! We were able to continue helping with the retaining wall and make even more progress.
Throughout the day, we also had time to reflect and debrief together. Later, we visited Refuge City and got to see all the incredible work God has done there. It was such a blessing to see the new renovations and experience more of God’s beautiful creation.
In the evening, we shared dinner together, said our goodbyes, and then ended the night relaxing in the hot springs. It was a wonderful time to rest and take in all that we have seen and learned during this trip.
Thank you so much for your continued prayers and for all you have done for our group. We are truly grateful for your support and encouragement. God bless you!

Good evening! Sorry for the late post—we had a very busy day today!

We have had such a wonderful time connecting with Memorial Park Church from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and are so grateful for the opportunity to serve alongside them during our trip.

We started the morning with a devotional led by Shane before splitting into groups. Some of our team helped teach and sew with the women, while the other group worked in the heat digging holes for the retaining wall at Kairos City.

After lunch, we spent the afternoon preparing for a very special evening. We had the opportunity to serve the people here in Costa Rica by providing a meal of hamburgers, mac and cheese, and a special dessert of deconstructed Scotcharoos.

Following dinner, we shared testimonies and had the privilege of hearing powerful stories from several of the men at the Refuge. It was such a meaningful reminder of God’s faithfulness and the incredible work He is doing here.

We ended the evening making bracelets with the girls and men from the Refuge and Kairos, as well as giving each of them bags filled with goodies and treats. It was a joy to celebrate them, build relationships, and witness God moving in so many wonderful ways.

Thank you for your continued prayers and support throughout this journey. We are so grateful for each of you and can’t wait to share more tomorrow. Goodnight, and God bless!
