St Andrew's Episcopal Church/Des Moines IA

St Andrew's Episcopal Church/Des Moines IA If you are looking for an open and affirming church in the heart of Des Moines that celebrates good preaching, diversity, and social justice, please join us.

We're an open, friendly, and welcoming Episcopal parish in the Merle Hay neighborhood of Des Moines, IA. Our members come from a wide variety of backgrounds both religious and secular, which creates a wonderful mix for our parish. St. Andrew's has a strong desire for social justice and to do God's work in the world. We express this desire in many ways:

• We do outreach into the communities of re

fugees from Sudan and South Sudan (both Christian and Muslim) and offer worship and gathering space to these groups.

• We reach out to those in need through food pantry collections, knitting scarves/hats/gloves for the homeless, donating platters of cookies to homeless shelters at Christmas time and by "adopting" various organizations which help the needy.

• St. Andrew's has several parishioners who are members of the GLBT community and the church participates in the Capital City Pride Parade held every June.

• We strive to leave as small of on ecological footprint as we can by using efficient lighting, regulating heat, recycling, using sustainable landscaping, and planting gardens.

• And much more! Pray… Think… Act…

These simple yet powerful words sum up the mission of St. Andrew’s church:

Pray…
We are a worshiping community, dedicated to deepening our relationship with God and Jesus Christ. Think…
We are a questioning community, actively exploring both our faith and our doubt. Act…
We are a social justice community, serving as God’s hands in this world. Join us on our journey to a closer relationship with God and Jesus Christ. Our doors are open to all.

For the next 5-7 days, Iowa SNAP disruptions will leave many neighbors struggling to put food on the table. The shelves at the Community Market at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church need to be restocked urgently.

If you can help, please bring food or hygiene items, this week. Let’s make sure our shelves, and our community stay full!

“Truly I tell you, just as you did it to one of the least of these… you did it to me.” — Gospel of Matthew 25:40

Iowa HHS is aware that some SNAP recipients had their EBT cards canceled. As a result, some customers are currently unable to use their SNAP cards.

New replacement cards have been issued and should arrive in 5-7 days. Please do not request a new EBT card because a new card has already been issued.

If you have questions in the meantime, please contact our customer support team at 1-877-347-5678
