Dr. Gregory S. Neal - “The Weight of the Cross” - 8/30/2026

08/26/2026

Again and again, people pushed to the margins have helped the Church rediscover the wideness of God’s grace and the dignity of every human life.

When others tried to decide who belonged, God was already there, loving, calling, and sustaining those who had been excluded.

“Sometimes the people at the margins see grace more clearly because they have had to trust that grace was bigger than the gatekeepers.”

At Grace, we believe God’s table is wide, God’s love is for everyone, and there is a place for you here. ❤️

An Important Update About Grace’s Music Ministry 🎶

Today, we shared an important transition in the life of Grace United Methodist Church.

At the end of this month, Ann Gerdom will be stepping down from her role as Grace’s Director of Music and organist.

Ann’s ministry at Grace has been so much more than playing the organ or selecting music for worship. Through her extraordinary talent, faithful leadership, and deep love for this congregation, Ann has helped shape the worship life of Grace.

Her music has accompanied us through joyful celebrations, sacred seasons, and tender moments of grief. She has helped us praise, pray, remember, grieve, and experience the presence of God.

Week after week, Ann has offered her gifts with excellence and care. She has encouraged musicians, strengthened our worship, and helped preserve the rich musical tradition that has long been part of Grace. The countless hours she has given in preparation, rehearsal, planning, and service cannot be fully measured.

Ann leaves behind a remarkable legacy of musical excellence, faithful service, and love for Grace United Methodist Church. We are profoundly grateful for all she has given to this congregation.

❤️ Next Sunday, we will take time during worship to honor Ann and celebrate her ministry among us. We invite you to bring cards, personal notes, or other tokens of appreciation as we surround Ann with the love and gratitude she so deeply deserves.

As we prepare for this transition, we are also excited to share that, following a search, prayerful discernment, and interviews by our Staff-Parish Relations Committee, Eric Mohlis will be joining Grace as our new Director of Music.

Eric’s first Sunday with us will be September 6, and we look forward to welcoming him warmly as he begins this new chapter of ministry with us.

In this season of both gratitude and new beginnings, we give thanks for Ann, for the incredible ministry she has shared with Grace, and for the ways God continues to lead us forward.

Please join us next Sunday as we celebrate Ann and say thank you for a ministry that has meant so much to so many. ❤️🎶

🌿 Be still. God is near.

Pause for a moment.

Release your shoulders.
Unclench your hands.
Take a slow, deep breath.

Breathe in God’s peace.
Breathe out the weight you have been carrying.

You do not have to solve everything today. You do not have to carry the needs of the world alone. God is already present in your joy, your uncertainty, your weariness, and your hope.

Gracious God, quiet the noise around us and within us. Center our hearts, ground us in your grace, and help us notice your presence today.

Amen.

“Be still, and know that I am God.”
Psalm 46:10

Grace has now celebrated the opening of our newly renovated Creative Arts Studio in two beautiful and meaningful ways. 🎨✂️🧶

The space was first formally dedicated by Dr. Greg Neal in memory of Molly Gerdom, whose sister, Ann Gerdom, generously funded the renovation as a loving tribute to her life. Members of the Grace community gathered to bless the room, give thanks for everyone who helped make it possible, and pray for the creativity, connection, and ministry that will take place there.

Then, during the usual Monday evening Crafternoon gathering, the group came together again for a ribbon cutting and party to officially celebrate their new home.

Formerly known as the Confirmation Room, the Creative Arts Studio has been freshly painted, its original floor has been carefully restored, and new tables and furnishings have been added. Jack Quick completed the painting and other repairs, while Skip Phillips sanded and sealed the floor.

The studio is already home to the Crafternoon and Prayer Shawl group and is also being used by Grace staff for meetings. We look forward to seeing this space filled with art, conversation, prayer, laughter, and community for many years to come.

We are deeply grateful to Ann for making this renovation possible in Molly’s memory, and to Jack, Skip, and everyone who contributed their time and care.

May the Creative Arts Studio always be a place where creativity is encouraged, relationships are strengthened, and God’s love is shared.
