Today as we remember Dr. Martin Luther King, we offer two reflections for us to continue his work and faithfulness to Christ.
1. In this reflection, Habitat for Humanity reminds us that as Christians, we are called to build up what Dr. King called “the beloved community.” https://www.habitat.org/stories/world-equality-fairness-and-human-decency?eType=EmailBlastContent&eId=c083c330-1420-48ad-a10a-d3857c2f54ac
2. A friend recently shared with us Dr. King’s “daily rule” (or practice) for participants of the 1963 Birmingham campaign, a rule we would do well to continue today as those called to act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with our God:
[ ] Meditate daily on the teachings and life of Jesus.
[ ] Remember always that the nonviolent movement...seeks justice and reconciliation, not victory.
[ ] Walk and talk in the manner of love, for God is love.
[ ] Pray daily to be used by God in order that all might be free.
[ ] Sacrifice personal wishes in order that all might be free.
[ ] Observe with both friend and foe the ordinary rules of courtesy.
[ ] Seek to perform regular service for others and the world.
[ ] Refrain from violence of fist, tongue, or heart.
[ ] Strive to be in good spiritual and bodily health.
Habitat for Humanity is propelled by a vision of a world where everyone has a decent place to live. Join us as we pledge to work harder than ever toward making Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s vision of a Beloved Community of justice, equal opportunity and love of fellow human beings a reality.
