❄️ SNOWSTORM SERVICE UPDATE ❄️
Due to the snowstorm, we will only be gathering this Sunday at 10:30 am.
The 3:00 pm gathering is cancelled.

📍 Location: 1080 Bennett Drive, Deptford, NJ 08096
Please travel safely and we hope to see you in the morning.

Although we are faithless and fickle, Jesus graciously sees us, serves us, and strengthens us but He refuses to be used for our desires or foolish demands. He did not come merely to make us feel better, but to glorify His Father and rescue us from our sins.

That’s what we discover in John 6:1–15, where Jesus feeds the 5,000 with a little boy’s lunch. It was never about a miraculous moment, but an eternally fulfilling meal made available for all who will feast on Him.

Join us at 10:30 am as we worship Jesus, the greater Moses, who came to complete a greater rescue mission.

"And when you fast..." -Jesus (Matt. 6:16)

Legacy 242 Family — our annual fast begins this week.
This is one of the most important rhythms of our year as we seek the Lord together.

🗓 Monday 1/5 – Friday 1/9
🙏 Night of Prayer, Worship & Practicing the Gifts: Tuesday 1/6 at 7pm
🍽 Breaking Fast Feast: Friday 1/9 at 6pm

What is fasting?

Fasting is intentionally abstaining from food to deepen our hunger for God.
Jesus reminds us, “Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God” (Matt. 4:4).

We fast in order to:
• Starve the flesh and walk by the Spirit (Gal. 5:16)
• Feed the Spirit and set our minds on Christ (Rom. 8:5–6)
• Strengthen prayer and spiritual clarity (Matt. 6:16–18)
• Stand in solidarity with the poor and suffering (Isa. 58:6–7)
• Break habits, addictions, and mindsets so our lives are rightly reordered around Jesus (1 Cor. 6:12)

Do I have to fast the full 5 days?

No. You’re invited to fast as the Lord leads.
Some will fast a couple days.
Some will fast daily until sundown with one healthy meal.
Others will fast the full five days.
“Each one should be fully convinced in his own mind” (Rom. 14:5).

Practical encouragement:

• Begin reducing food and caffeine a few days before
• Drink plenty of water (headaches are normal during detox)
• Expect to feel cold—dress warmly and stay lightly active
• Reduce workout intensity by at least half
• Every time you feel hunger, turn it into prayer (Ps. 63:1)
• Spend extra time in Scripture—God’s Word satisfies and sustains (Jer. 15:16)
• If fasting beyond 3 days, calorie-free electrolytes can help
• When it’s hard, remember Jesus—who fasted, suffered for us, and now sustains us with heavenly food (John 4:34)

Fasting is not extreme or unusual...it’s a normal spiritual practice in the way of Jesus (Matt. 9:15) and a regular rhythm of the historic church.

Let’s humble ourselves, seek the Lord, and expect Him to move among us.

We’re in this together.

Before asking, “what should I do this year?”
Ask, “Jesus, what are you inviting me to do this year?”

This Sunday (12/28), Legacy 242 will not be gathering for our usual worship service.

Instead, we’re inviting our church family to do something intentional and countercultural:
--> set aside a few hours personally or with your family to pray through our Annual Examen.

Why?

Because spiritual growth rarely happens in a hurry.
Because God often speaks most clearly when we slow down.
Because formation doesn’t come from trying harder—but from aligning our lives with Jesus.

This guided examen helps us:

Look back and notice where God has been faithful

Rejoice with gratitude

Repent and receive grace

Dream forward with God—not just about goals, but about the kind of people we’re becoming

Surrender the year ahead to Jesus as King

This is not about making New Year’s resolutions.
It’s about remembering that God is already at work—and choosing rhythms that help us walk closely with Him.

Some coaching tips to help you get the most out of this time:

Block the time in advance and guard it

Create a quiet, distraction-free environment

Have a Bible, journal, and pen ready

Don’t rush—let prayer and reflection take the lead

If you’re with family, keep it age-appropriate and grace-filled

We believe this kind of intentional pause creates space for clarity, healing, gratitude, and renewed purpose.

We’ll gather again the following week—but this week, we’re trusting God to meet you right where you are.

Grace and peace as you reflect, reset, and surrender.

Tomorrow: Our Special Christmas Sunday Gathering!

ONE service — 10:00 AM
📍 205 Esplanade Ave, Pitman

This Christmas, we’re slowing down to listen again to the message that changed the world:

“Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people…
For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.”
— Luke 2:10–11

Tomorrow we’ll walk through Luke 2:8–20, a passage bursting with beauty and truth:

- Heaven announces the good news.
- Angels erupt in joyful praise.
- Humble shepherds hurry to behold the newborn King.
- And those who encounter Jesus can’t help but share the message.

Our sermon:
“The Christmas Message Matters: Good News of Great Joy for All People”
We’ll discover why the message of Christ’s coming still transforms hearts today.

And after our gathering…
Jesus’ Birthday Pizza Party downstairs in the hall!
A fun, joyful way to celebrate together as a church family.

It's a great Sunday to invite friends and family.
Bring your heart ready to encounter the Savior.

10:00 AM — One service only.
Let’s fill the room with worship and wonder as we celebrate the One who is of infinite worth.

Annual Examen Sunday — December 28, 2025

Legacy family, the last Sunday of the year is coming up, and that means something special for us. Instead of our normal Sunday gatherings, we’re setting aside December 28th for our Annual Examen — a day to slow down, reflect, and meet with Jesus right where you are.

This is your invitation to breathe…
To look back over the year with honesty and gratitude…
To notice how Jesus has met you, carried you, corrected you, and shaped you…
And to prepare your heart for the year ahead.

There will be no in-person gatherings on 12/28.
Instead, we’ll provide a simple guide you can walk through on your own, with your spouse, or with your family.

Jesus meets us when we slow down to be with Him. Let’s give Him our attention and finish the year with intention.

“Day by day… they received their food with glad and generous hearts, praising God…” — Acts 2:46–47

Great time with Tuesday’s MC at Bonesaw Pilot House for trivia night.

Trivia nights might seem simple, but they give us something a church needs: friendship, laughter, and shared life outside of Sunday gatherings.

Programs don’t make disciples—relationships, encouragement, and the ordinary moments where God does extraordinary work are what truly shape disciples, because discipleship happens in the everyday stuff of life.

At Legacy 242, we believe the church should gather and scatter with purpose: worshipping together, and then stepping into our community with joy, hospitality, and mission in mind. Nights like this remind us that discipleship isn’t only sermons and studies—it’s also conversations, smiles, and shared tables.

Yesterday reminded us once again how good it is when God gathers His people. We welcomed new friends, enjoyed meaningful conversations, worshiped Jesus together, and experienced the joy of being part of a spiritual family.

After our afternoon gathering, a group of us headed to a Mexican restaurant near Rowan university. The laughter, the connection, and the easy conversations around that table were such a beautiful picture of gospel community. Sharing a meal together isn’t just something we do; it’s part of who we are.

At Legacy 242, we deeply value community and authentic friendships. We believe life in Christ grows stronger when we spend intentional time caring for one another, building each other up, and sharing life both in our gatherings and around everyday tables.

We’re grateful for everyone who joined us, for the new faces we met, and for the way God continues to build His family here in Deptford and Pitman. We can’t wait for more Sundays, and more meals, together.

You’re invited this Sunday!
We’re continuing our journey through the Gospel of John, and this week we enter one of the most famous conversations in all of Scripture—John 3:1–21, where Nicodemus meets Jesus in the dark.
It’s the original “Nick at Night.”

The depth of human sin means we are spiritually dead deep within.
Nicodemus comes at night, literally and spiritually. Like him, we need more than improvement… we need rebirth.

All who are born again receive eternal life and citizenship in the Kingdom of Heaven
—by the miraculous work of the Spirit,
—through the atoning work of Christ,
—because of the sacrificial love of the Father.

What Jesus Teaches Us in John 3

Jesus explains that the new birth is God’s work from start to finish:

The Spirit opens our eyes and makes us alive.

The Son is lifted up on the cross for our salvation.

The Father loves us with a sacrificial love beyond measure.

This is the good news Nicodemus needed—and the good news we need today.

This Sunday (11/2) is going to be a special one!

Pastor Steve will be preaching at New Life Bible Fellowship (400 Swedesboro Rd, Gibbstown, NJ) — a new church that loves Jesus.
We’ll gather there for breakfast at 9:45am and service at 10:15am.

Then at 3:00pm, our Legacy 242 family will gather again at 205 Esplanade Ave, Pitman, NJ for our afternoon service.

Same Word. Same Spirit. Same Savior.

This week’s message comes from John 2:1–12 — “Water to Wine.”
When the wine ran out at the wedding, shame was about to set in.
But Jesus stepped in, turned emptiness into abundance, and revealed His glory.

--> What do you do when the “wine” runs out in your own life—when joy fades, strength runs dry, or shame starts whispering you’re not enough?

Come discover how Jesus takes our shame and fills us with His joy by providing saving grace.
He still transforms ordinary water into extraordinary wine—and hearts like ours into vessels of glory.

Bring your family. Bring your questions. Bring your need.
Jesus is present and providing!
