For Leaders -
"In the early morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house, and went away to a secluded place, and was praying there." Mark 1:35 (NASB95)
He was always praying. It is the most consistent and predictable habit of Christ's life on earth - and yet it was a constant frustration to those who followed Him.
As leaders, we are drawn to getting things done and it is hard for us to be still. As we develop strengths and abilities, we tend to lose our dependency on God. And so, we pray a little here and there - often by rote and without much thought.
Jesus would spend hours, sometimes all night, in prayer. His greatest joy was being alone with his Father, and it fueled him for everything he had to do. If prayer was the most significant part of His day, how much more it should be for us!
The greatest work is on our knees. This is how I want to start my year. This is where I want to grow. This is how I want to lead. How about you? The world has seen enough of what we can do - they need to see what God can do!
For the sake of His name,
Matt
