ADVENT BEGINS TOMORROW
GATHERINGS AT 10:30am & 6pm
the lectionary Gospel that is given to us this Sunday, Jesus speaks to his followers about the ending of all things, when nothing that has been made will remain. He tells them to live in the light of this truth, to watch and to be ready.
When all has passed away, when the fabric of creation has unravelled, Christ will remain.
As Advent people, we are called to live in this reality, fully aware that at every moment the world in which we live, the systems that govern us, are being torn apart. We live with eyes open to the pain and suffering and cruelty in our world, and we say with all creation, “Come, Lord Jesus.”
In the season of Advent, the Church lays before us the poverty, the brokenness, the oppression present in our world. She holds our head so that we may not look away. In that place, we begin to move towards the darkness to be the incarnation of healing and hope, and it is in that place that we allow ourselves to feel an ancient hope in the Light of the world, the One who will remain when all else is nothing.
