2024, and this is the first time a woman has preached at the National Baptist Convention (NBC). The NBC celebrated this herstorical moment by taking the sermon off of its website. SMDH. This is why I left the NBC 15 years ago. Women are 2nd class citizens, many are dying a slow death there and many help to perpetuate this madness. I was one of them until I embraced God’s freedom.😔I wrote about my experience in my doctoral work. “A Critical Analysis of Preaching in the NBCUSA: The Socio-Cultural and Existential Reality of Women.”

Nevertheless, Rev. Stewart made her/history.💜

May we pause to grieve the losses, regrets and disappointments of 2016 while also expressing profound gratitude for the many, many blessings, such as survival. May the mercies, grace and peace of God be with us all as we forge ahead into this brand new year filled with 365 brand new days of new opportunities and new experiences. May we be strong, loving, courageous, compassionate, bold, optimistic, justice-oriented and visionaries, determined to become what we could not without the lived experiences of 2017.
