The Church is at its best when it reflects the wideness of God’s love and the diversity of creation. This month, we give thanks for our LGBTQIA2S+ siblings and recommit ourselves to creating a community where all people are treated with dignity, respect, and love. Whoever you are, you are welcome here.

During AANHPI Heritage Month, we celebrate Clara Elizabeth Chan Lee, a Chinese American suffragist and community leader with deep Methodist roots. The daughter of a Methodist pastor in Oakland, she became the first Chinese American woman to register to vote in the US after California granted women the right to vote in 1911. Her life reflected a commitment to both faith and social justice, especially through advocacy for women’s education, dignity, and civic participation.

On Memorial Day, we remember those who lost their lives in war, and we hold in prayer the grief carried by their families, friends, and communities. As Christians, we remember not only with gratitude, but also with a longing for the peace Christ speaks into a wounded world. May this day lead us toward compassion, reconciliation, and a deeper commitment to the sacredness of every human life.

“Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.” Matthew 5:9

During AANHPI Heritage Month, we celebrate the life and witness of Grace Lee Boggs, a Chinese American writer, philosopher, and activist whose work shaped movements for civil rights, labor justice, and community transformation for more than seventy years. Boggs believed lasting change begins not only in protest, but in the hard work of building stronger communities together. Her life challenged people to imagine a society rooted in dignity, belonging, and care for one another.

Last week we enjoyed celebrating our fantastic women on United Women in Faith Sunday! We were led in worship by the Rev. Mary MacDonald and the Grace unit of the United Women in Faith as we remembered how fully God blesses us so we can live abundantly.

During AANHPI Heritage Month, we celebrate the life and legacy of Patsy Mink, the first woman of color elected to the United States Congress and a tireless advocate for education, equality, and opportunity for women and girls. Best known as a co-author of Title IX, her work helped expand access to education and athletics for generations of students across the country. Mink refused to accept that exclusion was normal and she helped reshape American education and opened opportunities.
