During Obon, we remember and honor our ancestors with gratitude. Obon lanterns guide their spirits to us and connect us with our pasts in the present moment of reflection to carry their teaching with us as we move into the future.

Dedicate a paper lantern at Bon Odori on Saturday, August 8, 2026 – available on site after Hatsubon Service (suggested donation of $20), available on a first-come, first-served basis as long as supplies last.

Dedicate a virtual lantern on our Obon Lantern web page at https://tsdbt.org/obonlanterns (open for dedications until August 31st; suggested donation of $10). The page will be available for you to visit throughout the year. After this Obon season, we will re-open for dedications in summer of 2027.

TSDBT's Obon Festival will take place Saturday, August 8, 2026. We begin with our Hatsubon memorial service at 3pm, which honors those who have died in the last year. If you would like to light a candle to remember a loved one, please contact us by Thursday, August 6, at [email protected].

Our Obon Dancing, or Bon Odori, will begin at 6pm, when we will dance with joy in memory of all our loved ones and ancestors. Join us for practices on Wednesday the 5th and Thursday the 6th from 7-9pm in the TSDBT gym. This is a great time to learn the dances or refresh your memory, and all are welcome!
