First Baptist Church of Denver

First Baptist Church of Denver Serving in downtown Denver since 1864. An American Baptist/Welcoming and Affirming church. First Baptist Church of Denver ("FBCD") began in 1864.

Two centuries later FBCD's steeple stands tall at the intersection of 14th Avenue and Grant Street directly across from the south steps of the State Capitol. Taller still is FBCD's vision of being a center of activity for Capitol Hill where people of all walks of life and systems of belief can experience conversations rooted in hope and filled with a passion to serve the needs of the broader commu

nity. Reflective of FBCD's historic commitment to social justice and the pursuit of equality for all people on April 16, 1962, the Reverend Doctor Martin Luther King, Jr., preached from FBCD's pulpit. Dr. King's vision of a beloved community is a vision for which FBCD's members still strive. FBCD worships on Sunday mornings at 10:30. Its worship style is very eclectic. Through music, silence, reflection, ritual, and an openness to voices from many religious traditions, FBCD seeks to create a sacred space where people can center their inner-selves to become more inter-connected with the mysteries of life, faith, and community. FBCD's future history is yet to be written. Will you be part of it?

The First Baptist Church of Denver held a special Membership meeting today. We achieved a quorum of Active Members and voted overwhelmingly to issue the Call to Reverend Kurt Kaufman to become our next Senior Pastor. We look forward to Kurt responding to our call, transitioning some of his current duties, and leading the church into the next chapter in our history.

Such an important and sacred evening with the Colorado Immigrant Rights Coalition, who screened their "The Colorado Story" short films here at First Baptist tonight. These short films tell the story of immigrants across Colorado - a state that has many paths and many stories, but remains our one home.

Thank you, students of Morey Middle School, for joining us on your service day! Students helped us with packing lunches and rescuing food for our community fridge, cleaning our building, and even putting together a sweet foosball table.

Thank you, friends!

Today's pilgrimage to the Amache National Historic Site wrapped up our series on "A Resilient Faith," discussing the faith that many of the 112,000 Japanese-Americans forcibly removed from the West Coast and placed into internment camps, had. It was a faith so deep it is difficult to comprehend.

We were so fortunate to be able to join many descendants, friends, volunteers, and survivors at today's annual pilgrimage to the Amache site. We are humbled to have been able to hear the stories and place our feet in the ruins of this sacred and yet horrific place.

So many special thanks to Mitch Homma of the Amache Alliance and to Rev. Dr. Priscilla Eppinger, executive director of the American Baptist Historical Society, for spending time with us and for sharing the stories of the people that spent time in this place.

And yes - we absolutely had fun, too.

The First Baptist Church of Denver is seeking a new building partner to join our roster of non-profits who make a big impact in our community.

We have available a quiet, affordable 329 sq ft office for lease in our historic building near Civic Center. The space is well-suited for nonprofits, community organizations, counselors, and mission-driven professionals who benefit from a calm, supportive environment.

The office space includes a small office and conference room, and is available starting in July of 2026.

Our philosophy at First Baptist Church of Denver is that we do not just *rent* to organizations, we partner with them. Part of our mission is to come alongside you and your non-profit to help you build your vision in a supportive and caring environment, free from corporate landlords. Therefore, we're especially looking for smaller groups who want to create a vision, but don't want to worry about the extra overhead. We take care of the utilities, mail, event booking, and other needs so that you don't have to. Our rent is a flat fee, so you know how to budget appropriately. Our whole building is justice- and people-oriented, meaning that if you have an idea, we can see it to life. Let us come alongside you as partners, not just as our tenants.

For more information or to schedule a tour, contact Rev. Kurt Kaufman in the church office at 303-861-2501 or at [email protected]. Photos attached are of our current tenant.
