In our series of Colossians, we are exploring the ways in which Paul called the early church to resist the lies of empire by living into the relational Truth of sacred dignity for all people. In today’s sermon, Paul calls the church to resist the stories that form us in the ways of empire and instead allow Christ to form us into a community marked by compassion, humility, patience, forgiveness, peace, and love.

Sermon Synopsis: The book of Colossians was written at a time and to a people struggling to live in the way of Jesus amidst Empire. Paul’s letter is a provocative call for Christians to live the relational Truth of Christ. But what is this Truth? How do we know it’s true? Why would we give our lives to it, counting what it might cost us?
