Council 4771 of the Knights of Columbus was officially chartered on April 5, 1959, during a meeting held on the south side of the Denton Square. In 1963, the cou
ncil acquired a five-acre property on Riney Road from Richard Riney. An existing house on the property provided a dedicated space for the Knights. In 1979, the council had the opportunity to obtain lumber from a historic three-story home on Oak Street to enlarge their KC hall of the existing Riney Rd house. Demonstrating their commitment and dedication, the Knights worked after their regular jobs to carefully dismantle the house down to the ground, salvaging the lumber for use in the hallโs improvement efforts. On April 17, 1980, a fire destroyed the original Council Hall on Riney Rd. In response, Council 4771 temporarily relocated its meetings to the Elks Lodge. On May 1, 1980, GK Pelzel gathered members at Immaculate Conception Parish Center on Elm St to discuss the construction of a new hall. Following extensive discussion and two years of pledges, loans and fund raising, the council broke ground for the current Knights of Columbus Hall on January 12, 1983.
