The work of ministry doesn’t always begin with a sermon, a church service, or having all the answers. Sometimes it begins with one simple question: “Do you want to study the Bible with me?”

Not everyone will be the one leading the study—but every Christian can look for opportunities, start conversations, invite, encourage, pray, and help connect someone to Jesus. As was mentioned: “We don’t all have to be the people doing the studying. But we need to be the people asking.”

When every part does its share, the whole body is strengthened and the gospel moves forward.

You may be one simple question away from opening a door for someone to meet Jesus.

Who can you ask this week?

An evangelist’s work is more than preaching a sermon. God gave evangelists to teach, strengthen, and equip the church.

But equipping only works if the congregation is willing to receive it.

It’s easy to ask, “Was the preacher good?”
A harder question is, “Did I allow God’s Word to challenge and change me?”

The evangelist must be willing to teach the truth. The congregation must be willing to learn.

The question isn’t just, “Is he teaching?”
It’s, “Am I willing to be taught?”

Ephesians 4:11–12

A mission is a specific task we’ve been charged to carry out.

Jesus did not leave His church without one. Our mission is to reach the lost and keep the saved.

That means success cannot simply be measured by how many people say yes.

Some will listen. Some won’t. Some may even tell us to leave them alone. That is not failure.

Failure is knowing the mission and refusing to engage in it.

The stakes are eternal. People are lost. Time is limited. Opportunities will pass.

We cannot control whether someone accepts the gospel. But we can control whether we ever give them the opportunity to hear it.

Failure isn’t hearing “no.”
Failure is never trying.

So know the mission. Accept the mission. And then do something about it.

Penn Jillette is an atheist. He doesn’t believe in heaven or hell—but he once made an observation Christians need to hear:

“If you believe that there’s a heaven and hell and people could be going to hell… and you think that it’s not really worth telling them this because it would make it socially awkward… how much do you have to hate somebody to believe that everlasting life is possible and not tell them that?”

That’s uncomfortable, but it’s worth thinking about.

If we truly believe eternity is real, and we truly love people, then we can’t let the fear of an awkward conversation keep us silent.

We’ll talk about the weather. Sports. Work. Our families. Almost anything.

But will we talk about Jesus?

Love speaks. Love reaches. Love tells people about Jesus.

Eternity is too important. The gospel is too good. People matter too much for us to stay silent.

The challenge is to live like we really believe it.

Who can you tell about Jesus today?

REACH is over, but the mission isn’t.

Throughout REACH, we kept coming back to Ephesians 4:11–12: God has given leaders to equip the saints for the work of ministry and for building up the body of Christ.

We heard about our mission. We were challenged to care about souls. We were reminded that every Christian has a part to play.

Now comes the important question: What will we do with what we heard?

Let’s keep the fire going. Let’s keep working together. And let’s keep reaching people with the gospel of Jesus.

Beginning next week, we’ll revisit one REACH message each week as we continue putting these lessons into practice.

REACH ended yesterday. Reaching people doesn’t.

Let’s carry Shawn’s challenge with us beyond REACH: pray for an opportunity, look for it, and be ready to tell someone about Jesus. Let’s keep reaching!
