We can tell God exactly what we’re hoping for. We can bring Him the worry, the questions, and the outcome we desperately want.

Then comes the hard part: trusting His care when His answer is different from our request.

In Matthew 6, Jesus reminds us that our Father knows what we need. Trust grows as we learn to pray, “Father, this is what I’m asking for and I trust You with what comes next.”

Last Sunday was Communion Sunday at Cross Church.

Together, we slowed down to remember Jesus’ sacrifice His body given for us and His blood poured out on the cross. As we shared the bread and the cup, we remembered the Lamb of God who gave His life to set us free.

“Do this in remembrance of me.” — Luke 22:19

Would I still do it if nobody knew?

Would I still serve, give, and pray if no one noticed or thanked me?

In Matthew 6, Jesus invites us to examine the motivations behind our faith. What we give our attention to shapes our hearts and our hearts shape why we do what we do.

Even good habits need a heart check. Are we seeking recognition, or seeking God? Are we hoping others see us, or that our lives reflect Him?

This week, let’s give God our attention and ask Him to reshape our motives. Our Father sees what happens in secret. Every quiet act of obedience matters to Him.

Matthew 6:1–18

What you give your attention to will begin to shape your heart.

We often focus on changing our behavior first. But in Matthew 5:27–30, Jesus takes us beneath the action and asks us to pay attention to what’s happening inside. The things we repeatedly look at, think about, and make room for have a way of shaping what we desire.

So maybe the question this week isn’t just, “What do I need to stop doing?” Maybe it’s, “What am I giving my attention to that is shaping my heart?”

Ask Jesus to show you where your attention has been—and to help you turn your heart toward Him.

Welcome home! 🙌

This past Sunday we celebrated 8 new members who said YES to being part of the Cross Church family. We are so grateful God brought you to us, and we can't wait to keep walking this journey together.

Thank you for joining us, for being part of what God is doing in Denton, and for choosing to do life alongside us. Like the early church in Acts 2, we are better together. You belong here, and no one walks alone. 💙

If you've been thinking about taking your next step at Cross, we'd love to help you get connected. Link in bio.
