TIME FOR A BREAK: After 40 years of non-stop ministry (with 20 of those years spent here in Maine), and a long conversation with our Bishop, we have been granted episcopal permission and authority for a long-needed sabbatical. A 'sabbatical' is a term that means time off from all church related activities so that we can seek the Lord's rest and refreshing. The Bishop has also made this an 'indefinite' sabbatical until the Holy Spirit releases us from this time of rest. We have been running on fumes for quite some time, and we really need this break. While there are no scheduled services, we will, of course, respond to pastoral emergencies. Continue to pray for us as we use this time seek the Lord's will on how to faithfully return to our original calling for Saint Brendan's (and Holy Trinity Chapel's role in that ministry) when we first moved here--that we don't add to or detract from the Lord's will. We love you all. Rejoice!

I was back in southeast PA this weekend for my mom's memorial service. It was a wonderful service that emphasized mom's love for Christ and her desire that everyone know Jesus with the same passion that she had. The whole service--music, Scripture, stories, tributes (and it was two hours long!)--moved steadily toward the Gospel invitation for all present to walk in faith and fellowship with Christ. My part of the service was to preach that message and invite people to that place of decision. The service was live-streamed and uploaded to YouTube. I hope you can make some time to watch it--it was completely organized by the family and (we pray) led by the Holy Spirit. If you want to fast forward to the sermon, you'll find it at the 1:23.00 mark. If you've ever wondered what my sermons are like, now's your chance. May the Lord be praised, and our Savior glorified. Mom would want nothing less.

HOLY TRINITY CHAPEL--NOW!
just a reminder of tomorrow's (Sunday, Oct. 13) special PowerPoint teaching on the Last Days. This might be a good opportunity to invite friends who are interested in this sort of thing (e.g., zombie apocalypse, doomsday scenarios, end of the world survivalists, etc.). Let's show them God's version of what it's all about as we prepare for the prophetic, biblical return of Jesus Christ. Communion and fellowship follow. The service begins at 9:30, 38 Cemetary Road, Dennysville.

PROFOUND MEMORIES THIS DAY.
My memories of 9/11 and the World Trade Center will always be a part of me. I was sent as a first responder to the WTC to work as direct pastoral support to the Search and Rescue teams. Attached are the ID badges I had to wear, granting me authorized entry into "Ground Zero" (that authorization, designated by the red letter "Z", can be seen on the large tag with the American flag). That badge also gave me access to the Emergency Coordination Center located on Pier 92, and access to the grieving families who were receiving emergency services on Pier 94. I was also a Fatality Team member with access to the temporary morgue that was set up to receive all the bodies (and body parts) that were waiting for identification. My time spent in NYC during that disaster will forever be one of the most significant times/memories of my life.

HOLY TRINITY CHAPEL--NOW!
What do Venn Diagrams, Viktor Frankl (a brilliant Jewish neuroscientist and Auschwitz concentration camp survivor), and Blaize Paschal (a 17th century French physicist and mathematician) have to do with Jesus declaring that He's the Bread of Life (John 6)? The only place you'll hear it is in yesterday's sermon at Holy Trinity Chapel. I just loaded the audio file. Click the link below, grab your Bible and a cup of coffee, put your thinking cap on, and get ready to be challenged and blessed!

HOLY TRINITY CHAPEL--NOW!

Holy Week is full traditional church observances: Palm Sunday, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, Holy Saturday, Paschal Vigil, and Easter. If you can only make it to one service, go to Easter Sunday. If you live in Downeast Maine, consider Holy Trinity Chapel. Our celebration of Christ's resurrection begins Sunday at 9:30. We're at 38 Cemetary Road, Dennysville--see map below. (And a shout out to Allie Brosh of Hyperbole and a Half, the original artist of the meme that shows up everywhere.)
