One of the aims for BSF is to train spiritual leaders to serve God in culture and the local church. For me personally, the weekly training and opportunity to practice leading and teaching has been transformational. In fact, it was a passage in Romans, the book we will study this year, that God used to confirm His call for me to teach in BSF.
Romans 12:3-8
For by the grace given me I say to every one of you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the faith God has distributed to each of you. For just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs to all the others. We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us. If your gift is prophesying, then prophesy in accordance with your faith; if it is serving, then serve; if it is teaching, then teach; if it is to encourage, then give encouragement; if it is giving, then give generously; if it is to lead, do it diligently; if it is to show mercy, do it cheerfully.
This year, 51 women in our BSF class have answered God’s call to serve in a leadership role and will receive the same blessing of training and opportunity to grow through serving that has so greatly impacted me. Eight of those women bring children with them. Their “yes” to God’s leadership call opens groups for adults and classrooms for children to participate in BSF. We are praising God for His provision! And we are praying and trusting God to provide volunteers to care for the children of those eight leaders during our weekly Leaders Meeting.
Our Assistant Children’s Supervisors, Christy and Morgan, have been reaching out to class members about our volunteer needs. A few of you have already given your “yes” and we thank you! Additional volunteers are needed. You are needed. You may never fully realize the return God will produce from your investment of a couple hours on Wednesday mornings, but those eight women will! The women and children they serve in BSF will! The families and churches they represent will!
If you would like to hear more about serving as a Leaders Meeting volunteer - whether weekly or on a rotation - please let your group leader know and she will connect you with Christy or Morgan.
I can’t wait to see you on September 16 for our first class day of Romans!
Blessings,
Stephanie Hammett
