Today's Scripture
John 14:27, AMPC

Stop allowing yourselves to be agitated and disturbed; and do not permit yourselves to be fearful and intimidated and cowardly and unsettled.

Today's Word

You can’t control how someone treats you, but Jesus says you can control how you respond by not allowing them to get you upset. When you overlook offenses, you’ll not only enjoy your life more, but you’re showing God that He can trust you with more influence and favor. Don’t go the next twenty years allowing the same coworker or relative to keep getting you upset. You give them permission to steal your joy. You make the choice to be offended, discouraged, and sour. The next time someone pushes one of your buttons to get you bent out of shape, just smile and say, “I’m going to stay in peace and be respectful despite how they treat me.” You have to stay on the offensive and control your own happiness. You have to make up your mind that no matter what people say or how they treat you, they’re not going to steal your joy. The most powerful thing you can do is to be good to them, keep focused on your goals, and let God be your vindicator.

Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You that I have the power to stop allowing others to get me upset and frustrated. Thank You that I can stay on the high road and let You take care of other people’s comments and attitudes. I’ve made up my mind that I’m going to keep my joy. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

Today's Word

In 1 Kings 17, the prophet Elijah asked a starving widow to do something that seemed selfish. He said, “Before you make your final meal from the last of your grain and oil, make me a loaf of bread.” But with it came God’s promise of overflowing provision if she would keep Him first place and do as Elijah asked.

God is saying, “Keep Me first place in your life, let Me direct your steps and decisions, and I’ll crown your efforts with success.” When you wake up in the morning, don’t meet with anyone until you first meet with God. Take time to thank Him for the day. Thank Him for who He is. Thank Him that He’s the giver of all good things, that He’s your protector, your provider, your healer, and your way maker. All through the day, under your breath, you can talk to God and say, “Lord, thank You for watching over my children. Lord, help me to be my best at work today. Lord, direct me in everything I do and say.”

Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You that You invited me into a relationship with You. I want, in everything I do, to put You first and have You direct my life. Thank You for speaking to me through Your Word. I believe that You will crown my efforts with success. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

Today’s Scripture
1 Corinthians 11:1, NIV

Follow my example, as I follow the example of Christ.

Today’s Word

When somebody calls for you at home, and you don't want to talk, do you tell your child, "Tell them I'm not home"? Or have they listened to you calling in sick to work when you're not sick? That's not integrity. We can tell our children to be excellent and take the high road, but if they see us compromising and doing the opposite, it's not going to happen. So don't complain later when your child lies to you. We lead by example. You can't be loving and cheerful in public but be critical and sour at home and not have your child follow in your steps. You are teaching them by example, and they're always watching and listening. They are deeply impacted by what you say and do.

You can't fool your children. They know when there's a double standard. They know when there's not integrity. This is not to pressure us, but to make us strive to excel in living an exemplary life that we want our children to live.

Prayer for Today

Father, thank You that You want me to live a life of the highest integrity, and especially before my family. Help me to be aware of the words I am speaking and the things I am doing. I will take the high road and strive to exemplify a life of great character. In Jesus' Name, Amen.
