Imagine showing up for church on Sunday and choosing which Sunday school class or small group to go to and the options were:
*I struggle with p**n class.
*I struggle with over eating class.
*I struggle with anger class.
….and so on.
Some of us might have a hard time deciding which one to go to. 😬The more time I am involved with Celebrate Recovery, the more I realize that so many people go to church desperately wanting to be free. They go to the alter begging God for freedom. Sometimes they walk out and never struggle again. For most, the struggle is still there. They love the Lord. They are true followers and believers, but they have never been shown how to deal with hurts or habits. They have never felt safe enough to confess or share the abuse they suffered.
Celebrate Recovery is a Christ centered recovery that helps us realize the power that we have in Christ. It teaches us how to be real, authentic, and vulnerable, which is a huge step towards freedom. Satan likes for us to keep these struggles a secret because it is there that we live with shame and guilt. He likes us to keep the abuse we suffered a secret because it is there that he can convince us that we are somehow not worthy of the love of Christ or somehow to blame.
If you are struggling or know of someone who might be, please know that there is a place that offers help. Please know that it doesn’t necessarily mean that you are not a “true” believer. I lived for so long thinking that those that continued in sin must not have really given their hearts to Christ. 🙄 That is not always the truth.
Anyway, I just wanted you to know that there is a safe place to share.

“There are times in life when words are totally inadequate in sharing how you feel, this morning is one of those days. My dearest friend and brother has gone Home. John Baker co-founder of Celebrate Recovery made his way Home early this morning. To say this took us by surprise would be an understatement. John touched more people with the healing power and grace of Jesus Christ than anyone else that I have ever known personally and one of those lives was mine.
We will share more with you in the days to come but for now we would ask that you keep his soul mate and cofounder of Celebrate Recovery Cheryl Baker, the love of his life, along with Johnny and Jeni Baker, Laura and Brian Gibney and all their grandkids in your prayers.
We will miss John more than words can express but it will only be for a short while and then we will see him again.
See you soon my brother.”
