The Birth of Jesus
Joseph brought Mary on a trip from his house in Nazareth to his family's hometown of Bethlehem.
Mary was ready to have a baby! When they were in Bethlehem, Mary gave birth to Jesus.
She wrapped Him in cloths and laid Him in a manger.
A manger is a place where food is put for the animals to eat, like their bowl.
Mary laid Jesus in a manger in a stable because there wasn't room inside the house for them to stay.
Shepherds were taking care of their sheep out in the fields that night.
Suddenly, an angel of the Lord came to them in a bright light.
The shepherds were scared, but the angel said, "Do not be afraid.
I bring good news that will cause great joy for all the people!"
The angel told them that a Savior was born for them!
Then, suddenly, many angels appeared and sang, "Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace."
The angels left, and the shepherds said to one another,
“Let's go and see." So they ran out of the field to go to Bethlehem.
They saw Mary, Joseph, and baby Jesus.
Jesus was lying in the manger, just like the angel had told them.
Once the shepherds had seen Jesus, they went to tell other people about what they had seen and heard.
The people were amazed at what the shepherds told them.
Mary realized how special it was that all this was happening, and she spent time thinking about Jesus being born and the shepherds coming to visit.
