Christ Church Delavan

Christ Church Delavan Following Jesus. Sharing His Love. Offering His Hope + Healing. Siguiendo a Jesus. Compartendo Su Amor. Ofreciendo Su Esperanza + Sanacion.

We are a community of Jesus followers who are part of a larger global community, known as the Anglican Communion. That means we are part of a global family of Jesus followers, from Africa, Asia, Latin America, Europe and Australia. What unites us is our worship of Jesus as Messiah and Lord of the universe, 0ur obedience to Holy Scripture, the Sacraments (The Lord’s Table & Baptism), the acceptance

of the historic creeds of the early Christians, and the preservation of the historic episcopate (the Chief pastor for a geographical group of local churches – for Christ Church we are under the oversight of the Bishop of Milwaukee).

In the Episcopal Church, the Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary is celebrated on May 31st. Because May 31st, this year, was Trinity Sunday this feast day was moved to today, June 1st.
This feast commemorates the visit of Mary, who was pregnant with Jesus, to her cousin Elizabeth, who is pregnant with John the Baptist.

Luke 1:39-55
“In those days Mary set out and went with haste to a Judean town in the hill country, where she entered the house of Zechariah and greeted Elizabeth. When Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, the child leaped in her womb. And Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit and exclaimed with a loud cry, “Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb. And why has this happened to me, that the mother of my Lord comes to me? For as soon as I heard the sound of your greeting, the child in my womb leaped for joy. And blessed is she who believed that there would be a fulfillment of what was spoken to her by the Lord.”

Mary said, “My soul magnifies the Lord, and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior, for he has looked with favor on the lowliness of his servant. Surely, from now on all generations will call me blessed; for the Mighty One has done great things for me, and holy is his name. His mercy is for those who fear him from generation to generation. He has shown strength with his arm; he has scattered the proud in the thoughts of their hearts. He has brought down the powerful from their thrones, and lifted up the lowly; he has filled the hungry with good things, and sent the rich away empty. He has helped his servant Israel, in remembrance of his mercy, according to the promise he made to our ancestors, to Abraham and to his descendants forever.”

Father in heaven, by your grace the virgin mother of your incarnate Son was blessed in bearing him, but still more blessed in keeping your word: Grant us who honor the exaltation of her lowliness to follow the example of her devotion to your will; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen. (Collect from BCP for The Visitation)

This icon of The Visitation was created by Sister Marie-Paul Farran (1930–2019).
It uniquely visualizes the unborn children in their respective mothers' wombs, reflecting the moment John "leapt in her womb" at the sound of Mary's greeting.

TRINITY SUNDAY...
On the Sunday after Pentecost, the church devotes its attention to the mysteries of the Trinity. In both the Old and New Testaments, God reveals that he is One God in three persons and throughout Scripture we are given insights into the eternal relationship of love within the Godhead. Christians since the 1st century have marveled at this intricate revelation and have carefully defined what Scripture says about this loving God we worship. In the Nicene Creed, the word ‘Trinity’ is used to describe God’s revelation of himself and, later, the much longer Athanasian Creed was written to elaborate on the truths defined by the Nicene Creed.

"Almighty God, who hast revealed to thy Church thine eternal Being of glorious majesty and perfect love as one God in Trinity of Persons: Give us grace to continue steadfast in the confession of this faith, and constant in our worship of thee, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit; who livest and reignest, one God, now and for ever. Amen."

There are many Trinity symbols in the architecture at Christ Church, Delavan. The Trinity Knot, Fleur-de-lis, Trefoil Triangle, and more.
Take some time and see how many you can find, especically around the altar, in the overhead decorative beams, in the stainglass windows, engraved in our church pews, in the light fixtures and more!

Today is Pentecost Sunday, celebrated 50 days after Easter. It commemorates the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the Apostles and other followers of Jesus Christ while they were in Jerusalem celebrating the Feast of Weeks, as described in the Acts of the Apostles (Acts 2:1–31).
“Come Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful and kindle in them the fire of your love. Send forth your Spirit and they shall be created. And You shall renew the face of the earth.” Amen!

The Ascension Window, over the altar, at Christ Episcopal Church, Delavan, Wisconsin.

Today, Thursday, May 14, 2026, it is Ascension Day, (the 40th day of Easter), it commemorates Jesus ascending into heaven. Biblical accounts of the Ascension are found in Matthew 28:16-20, Mark 16:19-20, Luke 24:50-53 and Acts 1:6-11.

“Grant, we pray, Almighty God, that as we believe your only-begotten Son our Lord Jesus Christ to have ascended into heaven, so we may also in heart and mind there ascend, and with him continually dwell; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.”

Easter is not a one-day celebration, but a 50-day season of wonder stretching to Pentecost.

Easter is not a single day, but a fifty-day season of wonder stretching to Pentecost. May these weeks find you lingering in the light of the Resurrection–and may the illuminated pages of The Saint John's Bible echo the disciples' joy on the road to Emmaus: "Were not our hearts burning within us?" (Luke 24:32) Wishing joy to you and yours this season.
