Sometimes, it's impossible to find the story behind a stone, but the stone itself can be the story. This small white marble broke above the inscription and its lower half can't be found. The size and the delicate, marvelously detailed cherub suggest that might have been originally been placed at the grave of someone young.

Among those buried in this old stone hillside crypt is a young aerialist from the Barnum & Bailey Circus, Ella Hackett.

According to the New York Dramatic Mirror dated April 15, 1914, the eighteen year old was practicing a new act with her sister, Sarah, two weeks earlier.

The brief article described the April 1 tragedy:

"The young performer, who disdained the safety net, fell while swinging on an ordinary trapeze like an immense pendulum, and In striking the platform her skull was fractured. She died within four minutes."

At the time of her fatal accident, Ella's father, Dr. Clancey Hackett, was ordering refreshments and making other arrangements for her upcoming birthday. She was one month away from turning nineteen.

Ella was buried in her maternal family tomb in Lot 6, Section 70 on April 4, 1914.
