Paul’s teaching about Christ gathering His church ends with a command:

“Wherefore comfort one another with these words” 1 Thessalonians 4:18

The blessed hope is not fuel for fear or date-setting. It is a promise meant to steady believers as we wait for Jesus.

1 Thessalonians 4:13-18
But we do not want you to be uninformed, brethren, about those who are asleep, so that you will not grieve as do the rest who have no hope.

For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring with Him those who have fallen asleep in Jesus.

For this we say to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord, will not precede those who have fallen asleep.

For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first.

Then we who are alive and remain will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we shall always be with the Lord.

Therefore comfort one another with these words.

Jesus said the popular road is wide for a reason. 🛣️

"Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat" (Matthew 7:13). He is not sneering at the crowd. He is warning it. The wide road asks nothing of you, which is exactly why so much of the traffic ends up there. The other one has a gate, and a gate means somebody has to decide something. 🚪

Here is the part that usually gets skipped in the warning. He never says the narrow gate is shut. He says it is narrow, and that few go looking for it.

What do you think is the honest reason most people never go looking?

In the very next verse the word translated narrow comes from a root that means pressed or hemmed in, the same picture used elsewhere for affliction.
