NATIONAL CATHOLIC APOSTOLIC CHURCH IN THE UNITED STATES
DIOCESE OF MARY, MOTHER OF HOPE
OFFICE OF THE PRIMATE
Official Statement of the National Catholic Apostolic Church in the United States.
Subject: Formal Declaration Regarding the Excommunication of the Fraternity of the Society of St. Pius X (FSSPX).
To the Faithful, the Clergy, and All People of Good Will,
Grace and peace to you in the Name of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
The National Catholic Apostolic Church in the United States has learned with profound sorrow of the decree issued by His Holiness Pope Leo XIV excommunicating the Fraternity of the Society of St. Pius X.
While we fully acknowledge the authority exercised by the Roman Pontiff within the Roman Catholic Church and recognize that matters of ecclesiastical discipline belong to that communion, we cannot remain silent when actions of such gravity risk further deepening divisions within the Body of Christ.
The Society of St. Pius X has, for decades, sought to preserve and promote the traditional liturgical and theological patrimony of the Latin Church. Although significant canonical and theological disagreements have existed, we believe that every effort should be made to pursue reconciliation through sincere dialogue, pastoral charity, and mutual respect before the most severe ecclesiastical penalties are imposed.
As a Church committed to the apostolic faith, the unity of Christians, and the healing of divisions, we respectfully express our disappointment at this decision. We pray that this action will not become a permanent obstacle to reconciliation but instead serve as an opportunity for renewed conversation guided by the Holy Spirit.
We call upon all Christians to avoid hostility, condemnation, and triumphalism. Rather, let us imitate Christ, who came not to divide but to reconcile, and who continually invites His Church to conversion, mercy, and peace.
The National Catholic Apostolic Church in the United States, remains steadfast in praying for His Holiness Pope Leo XIV, for the bishops and clergy of the Roman Catholic Church, for the members of the Society of St. Pius X, and for all who seek faithfully to serve Christ according to their conscience and vocation.
May the Lord grant wisdom to all shepherds of His Church, strengthen those who remain faithful amid adversity, and hasten the day when all Christians may once again gather in visible unity around the one altar of Christ.
Given under the authority of the National Catholic Apostolic Church of the United States, on this 3rd day of July being the Feast Day of Saint Thomas the Apostle.
Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam.
