Beloved community,

Many of us are feeling the weight of the world right now.

We see legislation harming transgender people.
We see war devastating families and communities.
We see immigrant neighbors living with fear and uncertainty.
And so many other places where dignity and safety are under threat.

In moments like this, our faith does not call us to look away from grief. It calls us to hold one another close and remember who we are.

People grounded in love.
People committed to justice.
People still building beloved community — even now.

A charge to keep I have,
a God to glorify,
a never-dying soul to save,
and fit it for the sky.

On 2 March 1791 John Wesley died, aged 87. This painting depicting him on his death bed is on display at the Museum of Methodism, London.

We’ve added terms that:

• Celebrate identity and belonging — like Pride, Chosen Family, Affirmation, and Beloved Community
• Offer thoughtful language for identity and community
• Clarify language around harm, privilege, and systemic injustice

This glossary can support:

• Small groups seeking deeper understanding
• Ministry leaders guiding thoughtful conversations
• Church councils shaping inclusive policies
