We spend so much of our lives praying for God to open doors.

Doors of opportunity, doors of provision, doors of healing, and doors of restoration.

But what if we have become so focused on the doors we want God to open that we have overlooked the Door He has already provided?

Jesus said, “I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved.”

The greatest door God has ever opened was not an opportunity or a change in circumstances. It was the way to salvation through Jesus Christ.

Sometimes we are so concerned about where God is taking us that we forget who is leading us.

Sometimes the greatest struggles we face are not the circumstances surrounding us but the things we have allowed to remain hidden within us.

The Valley of Achor became a place of trouble because of disobedience. Yet years later, God would speak of that very same valley as a Door of Hope.

What once represented judgment would become a place associated with restoration.

Our past may explain where we have been, but it does not have to determine where we are going.

Sometimes God must confront what we have buried before we can experience what He desires to restore.

We often think we will finally be able to rest when we become strong enough to get everything under control.

But our relationship with Christ began by recognizing that we were without strength.

We could not save ourselves. We could not make ourselves righteous. We could not accomplish what only Christ could accomplish.

So He did the work we could not do.

Why would we begin our walk with God completely dependent upon Him and then spend the rest of our lives acting like everything depends upon us?

Rest is not saying nothing needs to be done.

Rest is recognizing that not everything can be done by me.

Christ accomplished it. Faith receives it. Peace comes from it. Rest settles into it.

Sometimes rest begins where our strength ends.

We sometimes believe that if we are resting in God, the pressure should disappear.Paul says otherwise.Tribulation works ...

We sometimes believe that if we are resting in God, the pressure should disappear.

Paul says otherwise.

Tribulation works patience. Patience produces experience. Experience produces hope.

James says the trying of our faith works patience and then tells us to let patience have her perfect work.

Rest does not always mean God removes you from the process.

Sometimes rest means you stop fighting God while He is working through the process.

You can have pressure without panic.

You can have questions without abandoning faith.

You can be waiting without losing hope.

Peace is not found in everything around you becoming still.

Peace is knowing Who is with you when nothing around you is still.

Israel heard the promise, but Hebrews says the Word did not profit them because it was not mixed with faith.

The promise was there.

The rest was available.

But they still had to believe.

Sometimes we ask God for rest while refusing to release control. We want God to give us peace while we continue trying to figure everything out ourselves.

Faith says I have done what God has asked me to do, and now I trust Him with what I cannot do.

That is why Hebrews tells us to labor to enter into rest.

Sometimes the hardest thing to do is stop trying to carry what God has already asked us to give Him.

You cannot truly rest somewhere you do not trust.

We usually hear the words “rest in peace” when someone dies.

But why wait until death to experience something Christ has made available to us now?

Through Jesus we have peace with God, and Hebrews tells us that those who believe enter into His rest.

Peace and rest are not the same thing, but they belong together.

Peace tells me that everything is settled between God and me.

Rest happens when I finally trust what He has settled.

You can lie down without resting. You can stop moving while your mind continues running. You can take a break while still carrying the weight of everything inside.

True rest is more than being still.

True rest is putting the weight of your life upon the One who gave you peace.

God did not create rest because He needed something from man. He created rest because man needed something from Him.The ...

God did not create rest because He needed something from man. He created rest because man needed something from Him.

The Sabbath was a gift. God gave man permission to stop working and trust that everything would still be in His hands.

But a gift can be offered and never received.

Hebrews tells us there remains a rest for the people of God, yet it also warns us not to come short of entering into it.

Sometimes the problem is not that God has not given us rest. The problem is that we refuse to put down what we are carrying.

Rest requires trust.

God can offer you the gift, but you still have to receive it.
