First Presbyterian Church of Deerfield

First Presbyterian Church of Deerfield FPCD is an open, affirming community committed to inquiry, faith, and service. Our community is open and affirming to all. FPCD is committed to service.

We are an intergenerational community committed to passing on our faith to the next generation. You are welcome no matter where you are on your spiritual journey. Our community encourages spiritual questions and is open to people with different points of view. There is a place where you belong at FPCD, where youโ€™ll form lasting and deep friendships. We have an active childrenโ€™s program, including

a daycare and preschool, a Sunday school program, junior high and high school youth groups, and our weekly Tuesday Night Together program. These programs help students grow in their faith and form lasting friendships. We use rigorous safety practices, creating a safe space for all children to grow. We serve our community by working with local nonprofit organizations to shelter those experiencing homelessness, feed those who are hungry, and provide school supplies to kids. Every month our church works with at least two local nonprofits to put our faith into action.

THE BEGINNING: In 1877, pioneer families gathered to build our first church โ€” a simple wooden chapel with hand hewn pews and a bell tower housing a 300-pound bell. ๐Ÿ”” This humble structure was built with gravel and sand hauled by wagon from Lake Michigan.

An insightful and inspiring evening! The highlights included speeches from Jean Spagnoli, Deerfield Historical Society, The Rev. Dr. Leota Ann Didier Voll, daughter of the late Rev. Bernard Didier, and Dr. Heath Carter, Associate Professor of American Christianity at Princeton Theological Seminary. The evening also featured the 150th Anniversary Festival Choir's debut performance of the commissioned anthem by Dr. Mack Wilberg, music director of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. What a wonderful evening of history, fellowship, and charge for the future.

Our mission partner Curt's Cafe, a non-profit organization, serves our community by working with at-risk youth to provide basic living necessities, like safe housing to live in. The staff teaches these youth life skills and job skills through this restaurant environment, that give them the tools to thrive and give back as an adult.

Thank you to Curt's Cafe for hosting Coffee Fellowship after worship tomorrow at FPCD.
