In addition to keeping you abreast of the upcoming Holidays and Torah portions, please suggest topics you'd like to discuss. We'll set aside a few minutes at services to do so. NO domestic politics please.

Our new High Holiday Cantorial Soloist
We have engaged Dr. Sandy Finkel, a world renown Psychiatrist and U of Chicago Professor, as our cantorial soloist for the High Holidays. Sandy is a phenomenal musician and performer and has served as a High Holiday Cantor for Conservative synagogues for many years.
SANFORD I. FINKEL, MD
He has been a High Holy Day Cantor since 1982, having taken cantorial lessons from some of the top cantors in the Chicago area.
For five years, he had the honor and privilege to doven with a choir from the Lyric Opera of Chicago chorus. His musical career dates back several decades. It includes extensive Yiddish and Hebrew music, as well as the music of American Jewish composers and singers from the 19th century through the present.

Bnai Chai Shabbat Dinner and classes in person

1. Shabbat Dinner April 30th at Rabbi’s Home
I’ll be 2x vaccinated + 2 weeks by then, so am planning to resume our monthly Shabbat dinners, for those who feel comfortable. RSVP to [email protected] or text to 847 331 3584. It will be vegetarian food. I’ll provide the hot food to guarantee kashrut. Guests can provide challah, fruit, dessert packaged goods (no animal fat), packaged hummus, cut up veggies etc.

2. Beginning in May, I’m planning to resume my monthly class at my home. The class meets Thursdays, 4:30-6 PM. I’ll zoom it too so people who prefer to be home can participate.

3. Shabbat services: for the time being, we are staying on Zoom the first and third Fridays of the month until the Deerfield site allows us more than 20 indoors. So many indicated to David a desire to return to meeting in person, our leadership felt it would be easier to wait until we can accommodate more than 20.
