We are honored to be named the 2025 Non-Profit of the Year by the DBR Chamber of Commerce!🄳 What a joy to serve our shared community alongside so many wonderful folks and organizations. Our greatest thanks goes to Suzann Sladcik, the ā€œpumpkin promoterā€ extraordinaire who has been absolutely vital to facilitating our relationship with the Chamber and connecting us to so many new friends there! Her work was instrumental in helping this year’s pumpkin patch become our most successful to date - allowing us to give a whopping $14,700 to the food pantries in October! We can’t wait to create community in many new ways in the New Year. šŸ„‚šŸŒˆšŸ’–

Hello, friends! Due to an unplanned maintenance issue at the church and out of an abundance of caution, we will be holding our 9:30am service 100% ONLINE tomorrow morning! No onsite worship. Join us via Zoom, which you can access here! https://www.stgregoryschurch.org/live-stream

Due to this issue, the Scouts Haunted House in the StGs basement has regrettably been cancelled, BUT they will still be attending the Trunk or Treat and collecting cans of food for the food pantries!

And speaking of the Trunk or Treat: it's still on, as it was always planned to be entirely outdoors! Bring your kiddos to the StGs parking lot for free candy from 11:30-2pm. :)

Thank you for your understanding! Safety first, folks.

Jesus and Your 401(k)
Thoughts from Rev Dan Puchalla

To put it mildly, there are big chunks of Jesus’ teaching that just don’t mesh well with the values, priorities, and conventional wisdom of our culture. This Sunday, Jesus has some apparently unsettling and harsh words for those of us who save for retirement so we can finally put our feet up and — as the saying goes — eat, drink, and be merry.

But what’s so wrong with saving up for retirement? Isn’t that the American dream? Don’t we do well to teach our kids to do the same?

This Sunday, let’s find out just what Jesus’ real problem is with retirement … and if there isn’t something about our culture that we should have a problem with, too.

Why Pray?
Thoughts from Rev Dan Puchalla

When I was going through the ordination process – some 15 years ago now – I remember one piece of practical advice a mentor gave me before I was interviewed by the diocesan Commission on Ministry: ā€œThey are going to ask about your prayer life. Make sure you have a good answer.ā€

Fifteen years later, I’m not sure if I yet have a good answer! You see, I very much enjoy getting things done. And, I also enjoy taking time to reflect on big ideas. I tell myself that Jesus also seemed to like to get things done (healings, exorcisms, miracles) and he liked to reflect on big ideas (parables, sermons, debates).

Praying, though, seems like a third thing. It is not about getting anything done, nor is it about just having a good think. What is it? What’s the point of it? Why, when Jesus wasn’t getting things done and thinking big thoughts, did he pray so much — and tell his followers to do the same? And why do people like me struggle to articulate an answer? Let’s dig in this Sunday.

Join us online or onsite this Sunday at 9:30am.

Family Is Messy
Thoughts from Rev. Dan Puchalla

Family can be one of the greatest sources of support, meaning, and love in our lives … And, let’s be honest, family can also be an absolute nightmare.

In a world — in a suburbia — in which we often have to pretend like our families are perfect, the Bible offers up a family that is anything but. Yet, bizarrely, that’s exactly the family God most wants to hang out with.

Come hang out with us this Sunday at 10:45 to continue our Lent spiritual growth series: Life is Messy.
