The 2026 Florida-Bahamas Synod, ELCA Assembly ended yesterday afternoon in Orlando. This year‘s theme, “Do You Understand?” was drawn from Acts 8 and Phillip’s encounter with the Ethiopian eu**ch.

As always, it was wonderful to reconnect with colleagues in ministry, reflect on better and more authentic and inclusive ways to be the church, and worship together.

📷 credits go to the incomparable Pastor Keith Spencer and Bishop Doug Scharf, the Episcopal Bishop of Southeast Florida, who joined us for the assembly.

As a Reconciling in Christ community, we share the vision of ReconcilingWorks:

❤️To keep expanding the welcome, liberating those who are forced to live in the margins
🧡To keep dismantling barriers and building bridges.
💛To keep working until all of God's beloved have equity

Welcome to Worship at Zion!

Today on the Day of the Holy Trinity, we explored why the Church has spent centuries confessing its faith through the creeds.

The word Trinity never appears in the Bible, but the Church learned to speak carefully and intentionally about the God revealed as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. The Apostles’, Nicene, and Athanasian Creeds were not written to remove mystery, but to help Christians say what they mean and mean what they say when speaking about God.

In a world where words are often vague and confusing, the Church continues to confess clearly in proclamation and in praise, and we certainly have done so today!

We also extend many, many blessings to Ann and Doug Schley, who are celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary this week! ❤️

Don't forget about the opportunity to participate in tomorrow night's Open Mosque Day at the Islamic Center of Boca Raton () beginning at 6:00 p.m.

We will have the opportunity to tour their prayer space (masjid), meet our neighbors, learn about Islam, ask our questions, and enjoy refreshments and their gracious hospitality. This is not to be missed!

NO First Friday in June

Kurt has checked with the First Friday regulars and most of us will be out of town or otherwise engaged this month. We don't want anyone to dine alone (that's no fun), so we're going to forego First Friday in June.

If anyone has some patriotic suggestions for First Friday on July 3rd, let us know!

Today we remember with gratitude those who gave their lives in service to our country. On this Memorial Day, we pause to honor the courage, sacrifice, and devotion of those who laid down their lives for the sake of others. We also pray for veterans, for those currently serving, and for peace among the nations.

“Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.” — John 15:13
