PRAYERS OF THE SAINTS. We Covet Your Prayers Just as Paul asked!

Helpers in Prayer

Paul was so conscious of his need for the prayers of the saints that he pleaded for prayer helpers everywhere. He begged the Romans, “Now I beg you, brethren, through the Lord Jesus Christ, and through the love of the Spirit, that you strive together with me in prayers to God for me, that I may be delivered…” (Romans 15:30-31, NKJV). He also said to the Thessalonians, “Brethren, pray for us” (1 Thessalonians 5:25).

In Greek, the word for strive here means to “struggle with me as a partner in prayer; wrestle for me in prayer.” Paul was not asking for a quick mention in prayer. He was pleading, “Fight for me in prayer. Do spiritual battle, both for my sake and the sake of the gospel.”

When Paul was in prison, ready to lay down his life, he urged the Philippians to pray for him: “For I know that this will turn out for my deliverance through your prayer and the supply of the Spirit of Jesus Christ” (Philippians 1:19). Paul knew he was a marked man, that Satan’s hordes were bent on destroying him; and so it is with every true minister of the gospel. Every pastor, preacher, and evangelist needs helpers in prayer who will continually intercede on their behalf.

I am thankful for the prayer helpers who stood with me over the years. I was reminded of this while in Europe conducting ministers’ conferences and nightly crusades. Everyone worried about the crusade, wondering, “Can it be done?” France was rampant with skepticism, atheism, agnosticism, and unbelief. The kind of meeting we planned to hold had never been attempted.

Amazingly, thousands gathered, but I began to feel helpless. I didn’t know what to preach because none of the messages I had outlined seemed to fit. My interpreter and I had reviewed some notes beforehand, but I wasn’t sure they were right for the meeting. I warned him, “I’m not sure what I’m going to say.”

However, when I stepped up to the podium, the Spirit fell on me powerfully. I sensed the prayers of thousands of saints supporting me, and the Holy Ghost filled my mouth. I preached for forty minutes, and the entire time you could hear a pin drop. When I finished, I simply said, “If you need Jesus, please come forward.” Hundreds of people leapt to their feet in response.

Praise God! The entire time, I was being carried by the prayers of a multitude of people.

Beware of the Least Likely Temptation

Joab had defected to Adonijah, though he had not defected to Absalom. —1 Kings 2:28

Joab withstood the greatest test of his life, remaining absolutely loyal to David by not turning to follow after the fascinating and ambitious Absalom. Yet toward the end of his life he turned to follow after the weak and cowardly Adonijah. Always remain alert to the fact that where one person has turned back is exactly where anyone may be tempted to turn back (see 1 Corinthians 10:11-13). You may have just victoriously gone through a great crisis, but now be alert about the things that may appear to be the least likely to tempt you. Beware of thinking that the areas of your life where you have experienced victory in the past are now the least likely to cause you to stumble and fall.

We are apt to say, “It is not at all likely that having been through the greatest crisis of my life I would now turn back to the things of the world.” Do not try to predict where the temptation will come; it is the least likely thing that is the real danger. It is in the aftermath of a great spiritual event that the least likely things begin to have an effect. They may not be forceful and dominant, but they are there. And if you are not careful to be forewarned, they will trip you. You have remained true to God under great and intense trials— now beware of the undercurrent. Do not be abnormally examining your inner self, looking forward with dread, but stay alert; keep your memory sharp before God. Unguarded strength is actually a double weakness, because that is where the least likely temptations will be effective in sapping strength. The Bible characters stumbled over their strong points, never their weak ones.

“…kept by the power of God…”— that is the only safety. (1 Peter 1:5).

Awe is the condition of a man’s spirit realizing Who God is and what He has done for him personally. Our Lord emphasizes the attitude of a child; no attitude can express such solemn awe and familiarity as that of a child.

Don't Go Back to Egypt

Abraham did amazing exploits as God led him into the fullness of his blessing. When circumstances turned bad, though, Abraham lost his focus on God’s glory. He turned instead to his own resources. “Now there was a famine in the land. So Abram went down to Egypt to sojourn there, for the famine was severe in the land” (Genesis 12:10, ESV).

The story makes clear that Egypt was the last place Abraham should have gone. Along the way he put his wife in jeopardy; he lost her to a hostile king for a season, and he lied and manipulated things to save himself. This man had trusted God wholly up to that point, so why didn’t he trust God to see him through his difficulty?

Maybe similar things happen in your crises. When life gets hard—in your finances, your health, your family—do you keep your eyes fixed on God’s glory through it all? If you’ve ever “gone to Egypt” for help in such times, you know how lifeless an effort it can be. Often it complicates the problem, adding shame and despair to your burdens.

My point is this: Our separateness from the world doesn’t happen through our efforts or abilities. It happens through a revelation of God, and his glory remains with us even in our hard times. Consider the prophet Isaiah. When he entered the temple, he saw the glory of God. “In the year that King Uzziah died I saw the Lord sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up; and the train of his robe filled the temple” (Isaiah 6:1). That holy sight sent Isaiah face down on the floor in humble awe. “And I said: ‘Woe is me! For I am lost; for I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips; for my eyes have seen the King, the Lord of hosts!’” (Isaiah 6:5).

At that moment, Isaiah recognized God’s separateness. The Lord told him, “I have separated you for my holy purposes. I am sending you to preach my Word to a corrupt people. They will resist you, but you’ll be able to endure it because you have seen my glory.”

Like Isaiah, we won’t ‘go to Egypt’ when times are tough or the world turns on us when we have truly seen the nature of the God who has called us.

THIS IS A TRUTH THAT MANY CHRISTIANS STRUGGLE WITH. WHEN GOD SPEAKS, THAT IS THE TIME TO OBEY! WHEN YOU BEGIN TO REASON, DEBATE AND ARGUE ABOUT IT MAKING SENSE, YOU ARE ALREADY ALLOWING YOUR OWN IDEAS, YOUR OWN REASONING TO STOP YOUR OBEDIENCE TO HIM.

Isn’t There Some Misunderstanding?

“Let us go to Judea again.” The disciples said to Him, “…are You going there again?” —John 11:7-8

Just because I don’t understand what Jesus Christ says, I have no right to determine that He must be mistaken in what He says. That is a dangerous view, and it is never right to think that my obedience to God’s directive will bring dishonor to Jesus. The only thing that will bring dishonor is not obeying Him. To put my view of His honor ahead of what He is plainly guiding me to do is never right, even though it may come from a real desire to prevent Him from being put to an open shame. I know when the instructions have come from God because of their quiet persistence. But when I begin to weigh the pros and cons, and doubt and debate enter into my mind, I am bringing in an element that is not of God. This will only result in my concluding that His instructions to me were not right. Many of us are faithful to our ideas about Jesus Christ, but how many of us are faithful to Jesus Himself? Faithfulness to Jesus means that I must step out even when and where I can’t see anything (see Matthew 14:29). But faithfulness to my own ideas means that I first clear the way mentally. Faith, however, is not intellectual understanding; faith is a deliberate commitment to the Person of Jesus Christ, even when I can’t see the way ahead.

Are you debating whether you should take a step of faith in Jesus, or whether you should wait until you can clearly see how to do what He has asked? Simply obey Him with unrestrained joy. When He tells you something and you begin to debate, it is because you have a misunderstanding of what honors Him and what doesn’t. Are you faithful to Jesus, or faithful to your ideas about Him? Are you faithful to what He says, or are you trying to compromise His words with thoughts that never came from Him? “Whatever He says to you, do it” (John 2:5).

There is nothing, naturally speaking, that makes us lose heart quicker than decay—the decay of bodily beauty, of natural life, of friendship, of associations, all these things make a man lose heart; but Paul says when we are trusting in Jesus Christ these things do not find us discouraged, light comes through them.

1000000% TRUE!!!!!! And people have not taken Heed to it. Too many focused IN where it is comfortable and even those are tired of watered down Wordly, Feel Good, Ear Tickling Messages. God VERY CLEARLY tells us to FEED HIS SHEEP, BUT For Years The Shepherds have bee 'Feeding Themselves instead of taking care of God's Flock SO, God tells us EXACTLY What He IS doing and going to do because of this, See Ezekiel 33 & 34 and Revelation chapters 1-3! Smoke and Mirrors and Entertainment complexes Do Not impress HIM, Obedience and a Relationship Does!

Well, I know this will strike up a fire, But when you understand the whole scripture, I have lived a lifetime and am about to Celebrate my 35th Anniversary since my own "Road of Demascus Encounter" with the Lord Jesus Christ! I DO stand by the Rapture and believe that the Church Jesus implemented in Acts and the Fact of the Holy Spirit being in us as we are that Temple of the Holy Spirit is what continues to stand in the way of total evil on this earth during the Church Age which we live. Once the Church (and the Holy Spirit is removed ) as we know it in the Church age, their will not be that Power, That same Power that is in Jesus and in us, ie. why He said He must go in order to send the One coming after Him, to "Push Back" or Fight evil. Simply put. So many today cannot even tell you when Jesus' Ministry on earth started! So, No Wonder so many argue over the Rapture. All I can say is BETTER BE READY!!!
