🧺 With all things in His hands, Jesus chose to take His disciples’ feet into His hands - their tired, achey, dirty, stinking feet. 🦶

John 13 gives us a picture of greatness we need to remember. Jesus knew exactly who He was—and He knelt to serve. If this type of work is not beneath Jesus, we cannot call it beneath us.

Today, look for one practical opportunity:
• Prepare something another person will need.
• Help clean up.
• Take a turn with a shared responsibility.
• Ask someone what would make their day a little easier.

Is it literally washing someone's feet? Maybe not. But.. yeah, maybe it is. This is not about a ceremonial foot washing service, though. It is about real, practical service right where people live.

We serve because Christ has loved us and given Himself for us. His grace takes visible shape through willing hands.

Some of the most meaningful work happens before anyone arrives, after everyone leaves, or behind the scenes where it is rarely seen firsthand.

The preparation. The cleanup. The quiet prayer. The extra time spent helping someone who needed a little more patience.

If that describes your service, remember this:

🖤 Overlooked by people does not mean unnoticed by God.

Hebrews 6:10 reminds us that God does not forget our work and labor of love. What you do for His people matters to Him.

No, you are not doing what you do for applause. But healthy recognition and an encouragement from others is a good thing. It's also something we are encouraged to do in Scripture.

So while God sees, we don't want to make the mistake of overlooking these precious people performing important acts of service. Today, notice one thing that was ready because someone else prepared it. Then take a moment to thank the person behind it. Send them a card, a thank you text, or simply tell them in person.

Yesterday, we talked about honoring the servants. Today, here’s what that looks like. 🖤

After gathering for morning Bible study, these ladies stayed to help serve our students at Hillside Bethel Christian School.

From studying the Word together to putting love into action in the lunchroom. What a beautiful example for our children to see!

Ladies, thank you for giving your time, helping with lunches, and caring for our students. Your willing hands help our school day run smoothly, and your example teaches something no textbook can fully capture: this is what serving others looks like.

We see you. We appreciate you. And we thank God for you.

💌 That card you received yesterday? Put it to work today.

Think of someone whose service is easy to overlook. Someone who prepares, cleans, teaches, welcomes, repairs, or quietly makes sure things get done.

Write their name. Thank them specifically. Tell them how their faithfulness has made a difference.

Try this:
“Thank you for ________. Because you do that, ________. It means more than you may realize.”

And when appropriate, offer to help, too. A sincere thank-you encourages someone. A willing pair of hands helps carry the load.

Didn't receive a card or do you want to encourage more than one person? No problem. We have additional cards at the church office! Just stop by this week and get some more.

Today at Hillside: Honor the Servants.

The kingdom doesn't run on applause. It runs on aprons.

When we serve merely for applause, perhaps it's time to take a pause — and remember who we're really serving.

Thank you to every servant who shows up, quietly and faithfully, week after week. You are seen, and you are honored.

Remember to write your thank you card. And if you need additional cards, we have them available.

Somebody opened the doors, prepared the room, and made sure there was a place for you. Behind so much of what we enjoy are faithful people whose service is easy to overlook.

In “Honor the Servants,” part three of our People of Honor series, we explore how God remembers our labor of love, how Jesus defines greatness through service, and how we can honor those who quietly care for others.
Through Mark 10:42–45 and Jesus’ example of washing His disciples’ feet, we discover that service flows from the grace we have received. We cannot earn salvation through our work; we serve because Christ loved us and gave Himself for us.

Whether you feel overlooked or have overlooked someone else, this message offers encouragement and a practical challenge: notice someone, thank them specifically, and help carry the load. Faithful servants need appreciation, support, and room to rest.

Tommorrow the doors will be open. The grass has been mowed. The mums have been planted. The coffee and doughnuts will be ready. The room will be clean.

Why? Because someone will have taken care of it.

But “someone” has a name. Someone has a family. Someone has responsibilities. Someone gets tired.

And yet… someone keeps showing up.

Tomorrow at Hillside, we’re turning our attention toward the people whose work we may only notice when it doesn’t happen.

The ones who arrive early. Stay late. Make room. Quietly care. Often without much recognition or fanfare.

If you’ve ever wondered whether your faithfulness matters, I hope you’ll be there. And if someone’s faithfulness has made a difference in your life, this message is for you, too.

Last week, we talked about room at the table. That's great. But tomorrow we ask:

Who helped set it? Who helped get the room ready?
