Anger is powerful, red hot, impulsive, seemingly uncontrollable. It feels dangerous and we’ve learned to fear it. But anger also plays a critical role in our lives—so much so that even God shows anger. What is anger, and what are we to do with it in our Christian life? Rev. Lewicki preaching.

This Sunday, we begin a brand new worship series at NDPC called A Heart with God: Emotions and Our Faith.

Over the last 20 years, an extraordinary amount of research has focused on human emotion. We are learning how emotions work—how they shape our experience of the world. How do emotions affect our faith? How does our faith affect our emotions? Deeper emotional awareness can strengthen our life in and with God. We begin the series this Sunday with Rev. Lewicki preaching.

Our summer preaching series, “The Sermon I Need to Hear,” concludes this weekend with a perennial question: “How can science and religion co-exist?” NDPC member, scientist, professor, and poet Dr. Dabney Dixon will be in dialogue with Rev. Lewicki.

Mary Alice Kemp died in the care of hospice on July 30, 2026. A remarkable woman whose life reflected her genuine commitment to serving others and bringing people together, Mary Alice had a heart for unity, compassion, good government, and community, leaving a far-reaching impact. She loved well and was well loved.

In lieu of flowers, contributions honoring Mary Alice can be made to one of the organizations she served, including Common Cause of Georgia and those mentioned above.

Our summer preaching series, “The Sermon I Need to Hear,” continues this weekend with a wonderful question from a grandparent: “how do I respond thoughtfully when a 5 year-old asks me, 'Is God real?'” This Sunday’s worship service focuses on our children and their return to school and we start a new tradition of blessing backpacks—everyone should bring their “backpack”—elementary, middle, high school and all teachers, too! Children, Youth, and Family Director Kristin Hicks and Rev. Lewicki will deliver the sermon in dialogue together. Holy Communion is celebrated.

As you know, food insecurity continues to affect many of our neighbors:
● 1 in 7 adults in Georgia experiences food insecurity and
● 1 in 5 children in Georgia do not have consistent access to food
Through the upcoming Atlanta Community Food Bank Hunger Walk Run on Sunday, March 15, NDPC is stepping up to help our neighbors--and we'd love to count you in!
This year, funds raised by Team NDPC will directly support the Toco Hills Community Alliance (THCA), our community partner that provides food assistance to families in Toco Hills. THCA must raise $30,000 through the Hunger Walk to sustain its food ministry this year.
Our ask for help: make a difference in the lives of our neighbors by taking 5 minutes to donate $5. Even $5 helps THCA purchase 15 meals through the Atlanta Community Food Bank and support the families who need it most!
I am proud to announce that NDPC has already raised $1,600 for THCA, but I believe our congregation can play a bigger role in helping THCA reach the neediest members of our community.

Walk day details: We will gather after church on March 15 at 12:30 PM to carpool to MARTA and travel together to the Hunger Walk starting point at the Home Depot Backyard adjacent to the Mercedes Benz Stadium.

Hunger Walk Run is an integral fundraising, community building and awareness initiative of the ACFB. We distribute more than 100 million meals annually, throughout 29 Georgia counties, to over 700 partner agencies including pantries, community kitchens, daycares and senior centers. You can help!

Happy Black History Month!

This month, we celebrate the legacy and history of the Divine Nine. The Divine Nine is a group of nine historically Black Greek organizations founded between 1906 and 1963 to create a sense of community and belonging for students who were excluded from white Greek organizations. The Divine Nine continue to be forces of change, both on college campuses and in their communities. DeKalb County is proud to be home to many of these members, and we will highlight some in the lead up to our Black History Month Luncheon.

Marcia Glenn Hunter - Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc

Marcia Glenn Hunter was born in Lithonia. She attended Bruce Street School and later Clark College. She was the first African American member of the Lithonia Woman’s Club, and served on the city council for years. In 1995 she became Lithonia’s first female mayor. From 1995-2003, she became the first woman and the first African American woman to hold the office of Mayor of Lithonia.
