Earlier this week, Glenn Memorial United Methodist Church's youth group participated in a river cleanup hosted by GIPL at Mason Mill Park! River cleanups are a great way to care for Georgia's waterways and practice environmental stewardship.

The path of power runs through Milledgeville! Join us Thursday, June 25 at The Bridge United Methodist Church (6:30–8 p.m.) for our next Summer of Advocacy Power Trip stop.

We're tracing how energy is made, priced, and felt, connecting policy to the people paying the true cost of fossil fuel decisions. Every community has a story. Come help us tell yours.

Happy World Reef Day!

Today we're celebrating Georgia's beautiful coral reefs and the humans who are fighting to keep them safe.

Approximately 80-100 miles off the Georgia coast lies the largest known deep-water coral reef on Earth, in a part of the Atlantic Ocean known as Blake Plateau. The 200-mile-long dense coral highway dubbed “Million Mounds” supports a trove of biodiversity.

Chatham County, Georgia Government recently passed a proclamation honoring Blake Plateau and promising to continue to be good stewards of coastal and ocean environments. We're excited about this step towards greater protections for this holy place.

Sign our petition today to advocate for permanent protections within the Blake Plateau: https://gipl.org/coast

So far this year, this network's generosity has helped Georgia faith communities go solar, plant trees, build resilience, and raise their voices for clean energy. As we head into summer, GIPL is taking this momentum on the road with community gatherings across the state. As our Spring Appeal wraps up this week. GIPL's Senior Program Coordinator, Meagan Williams, recently spoke on a panel alongside other mission partners at Morningside Presbyterian Church to share updates from the past year and opportunities to get involved. We're always honored to partner with faith communities in celebrating and protecting our Shared Sacred Home.

To all who celebrate: Eid al-Adha Mubarak from GIPL!

As we reflect on the meaning of sacrifice and the generosity it calls forth, we are reminded of the gifting cycle present in the natural world. May this season inspire us to keep the spirit of generosity alive as we care for each other and our Common Home.

Earlier this month, members of our team attended the Citizens Climate Lobby's Building Bridges to Climate Solutions Regional Conference at the Atlanta Friends Meeting (Quakers). It's always a blessing to connect with others who are dedicated to meaningful climate solutions.

Clean air should not be a privilege. That's why GIPL just joined a coalition lawsuit led by the SELC against the EPA for failing to enforce life-saving soot pollution standards. Multiple Georgia counties, including Fulton, Gwinnett, Clayton, and Bibb, have soot levels that exceed federal health standards.

As our Executive Director Codi Norred told WABE News recently, "We find it to be an important part of our work to hold these entities accountable." Read more: https://www.wabe.org/georgia-nonprofits-join-lawsuit-against-u-s-epa-for-failing-to-enforce-soot-regulations/

Georgia nonprofits are joining national organizations in a lawsuit to force the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to continue to enforce one of its clean air laws.

Oakhurst Presbyterian Church has shown just how transformative taking a mindful approach to energy use can be.

GIPL's Power-Wise Program helps faith communities in Georgia reduce their energy use, lower utility costs, and become better stewards of our Common Home. Our Solar-Wise program helps faith communities and religious schools explore solar as a viable energy option to reduce operating costs and carbon emissions.

After participating in both programs, the church’s annual greenhouse gas emissions went from 86mt (equivalent to 19 cars) to 41.1mt (equivalent to 9 cars). Their energy costs for electric and gas went from $23,058.22 in 2018 to $17,561.90 in 2025. That's over $5,000 in savings!
