3 years ago (the last time this gospel was proclaimed at the weekend masses throughout our universal church) on the 17th Sunday in Ordinary Time (Year A), Fr. Mark Beard gave this homily. US journalist James Foley, executed by ISIS in 2014, was a devout Catholic who faced severe torture due to his American nationality. While imprisoned in Libya, he never missed praying the Rosary.

In Marquette University’s alumni magazine, he shared:

“I began to pray the Rosary. It was what my mother and grandmother would have prayed... It took almost an hour to count 100 Hail Marys off on my knuckles. And it helped to keep my mind focused.”
