In times past, I’ve shared this story, but I’m sharing it again because I saw a sweet friend’s post this morning and it reminded me of this story.

In the early 00’s, I was dealing with deep loneliness and in need of friends. So, I chose to pursue a group of women that I thought would include me. They didn’t, for their own reasons, which I don’t hold against them. But, it didn’t fix my problem. I so wanted to be the girl that women wanted at parties, at the park for playdates, for shopping, at the girls’ weekend, out to eat, etc. But, nope. Crickets. Even after actively stepping toward so many. For some reason, it just never flourished. On and on, I’m seeing small returns on my social investment.

But then, one evening, I get a phone call from a young pregnant woman. She’s in crisis and needed prayer STAT! And, the person she immediately thought of to call??? ME! Man, oh, man, was that an honor. And, boy, did I jump in to help, without any hesitation.

And, thankfully, through her following the practical wisdom that came after we asked Him to grant it to her, the crisis was resolved and the child is now a thriving adult!!

Afterward, I found myself aching at the thought that I was so often not invited to “the thing” but had been wanted when the problem arose.

But, my sweet Father helped me see that being trustworthy in life’s hard times is a precious, precious thing! For others to know they can count on you to stand in fierce faith on their behalf and that you are doing it well…That is better than almost anything I know.

So, that’s why I do this. And, why I encourage you to do it, too. To warm the hearts around you and to step toward your Realm of Influence as an ambassador of prayer. So that they know they have help when it matters!!

This week has been a very unique and invigorating one for me. I have spent so much time in contemplation and study, just pondering who we are meant to be as we gather up the piles of knowledge, wisdom, experience, and journey of faith we come to possess the longer we walk the life we have in Him.

How do we rise to the greater places we are each capable of stepping into, those necessary if we are ever going to truly step toward hearts in need?

How do we effectively sit under those wiser and more able to lead us, helping up prepare for those possibilities?

How do we remain connected to His voice, His Word, and His will so that we are tuned into the flow of where He is leading, not missing the opportunities He has prepared and not overlooking the hearts He has planted in our path?

And, how do we bravely and boldly step into the next steps, the next phases, or the next open doors so that we may rise up or expand into the spaces He desires us to exist in and has prepared for us?

All these things have been stirring mightily in me all week. So, as I pray them over myself and ask for His wisdom in my own life, I intercede for the same things in yours, dear friends. May you ponder and seek to possess these same Truths so that you may more fully walk as the true YOU you have always been meant to be.

Had something happen to me recently that was quite hurtful. And, I wanted to carry it around with me. Well, I did carry it until this morning when I was reminded of these 3 verses.
I was reminded of the Sermon on the Mount and some treasures within it that help us deal with the icky-ness that others may push our way. Each of these 3 verses teach us how to come alongside those that cause pain in our lives (through their conscience efforts, through passivity/apathy or, perhaps, through their lack of intentional compassion.)
What do these verses teach us?

They teach us that love bears up under the weight of that which has been laid upon our heart because it chooses to look to Him, instead. It realizes that people do things, sometimes even intentionally, that hurt. But, love chooses to go the extra mile anyway and continues to hold out hope and treat others with love and dignity, regardless of how they treat you. It's not an easy journey, at all, but one that love can do with Him walking it with us.

These verses also teach us that love mends. It seeks to repair and restore, stepping toward the other, even when there's little chance that you'll get anything back in return...the giving of your coat with no chance of getting it back. Love gives because we have Him here with us, who gave us His best and now offers us the fullness of Himself as we make space for what He can bring us.

And, these verses teach that love forgives (which is the hardest one for me to remember today.) It knows that people do all kinds of things for all kinds of reasons. But, love chooses to still look to Him for the ability to let the hurt go and choose to see them through His eyes, instead...turning away from the pain and choosing a fresh, new start.

Love goes the extra mile, offers the coat, and turns the other cheek. Because He first did those things for us!
