This Mother’s Day, we celebrate all who mother—the ones who gave us life, the ones who raised us, the ones who stepped in, showed up, and loved deeply.

We honor every kind of mothering: joyful, complicated, sacrificial, quiet, and strong. A mother’s love isn’t defined by gender—it’s defined by care, compassion, and presence. Whether you are a mom, a dad, a grandparent, a mentor, a caregiver, or someone who nurtures others with a mother’s heart—today, we give thanks for you.

We also hold space for those for whom this day carries grief, longing, or mixed emotions. You are seen, loved, and not alone.

“Her children rise up and call her blessed…” (Proverbs 31:28)

May you feel God’s love surrounding you today and always. Happy Mother’s Day 💐

From Pastor Rachel on the events of Tuesday afternoon in San Diego:

Yesterday I attended an event to help educate people in helping professions about resources for people in need. I was invited to the event by a member of the LDS community in the area. And when I was there I had a wonderful conversation with one of our Muslim neighbors talking about the shared stories of our scriptures and faiths. Yes, shared stories of biblical figures like Abraham and Mary. Both of these women are members of our interfaith community. And despite the differences between us, there is so much more that we share.

It is through this lens that I view the horrific shooting at the mosque in San Diego. Innocent people who were just trying to practice their faith and teach the children of their faith community were senselessly gunned down. They were people like the people who live in the neighborhood surrounding this church who live, work, and worship peacefully alongside all of us. One of the men leaves behind a family of 8. I know this because another Muslim friend has a relative who attends that mosque!

These men were beloved children of God, faithful and committed to their community, and willing to put themselves in harm's way to protect so many others. Nothing in our scriptures justifies what these murderers did. It is an abomination, and another stain on humanity. Violence of any kind, especially gun violence, especially violence against people because of who they are, how they worship, or who they love, must be condemned.

May we at Good Shepherd find ways to counter their violence with prayer, connection, and expressions of love and respect to our community. Please keep these men, their families, and all of our Muslim brothers and sisters here and around the country in your prayers and close to your hearts.
