InterVarsity at NIU

InterVarsity at NIU On Campus, On Purpose. Our vision is to see students and faculty at NIU transformed, the campus renewed, and world changers developed.

We seek to accomplish this through a community that studies the Bible, prays to seek God's direction, and does outreach. Our vision is to see every student at NIU know and be a witness of Christ’s transforming love.

Please pray for our upcoming Week of Welcome and Outreach Events! We are asking God to connect us with the students He is already drawing to Himself and for the opportunity to plant seeds of faith and love in those for whom God has not been on their radar at all. Please pray for our student leaders, chapter volunteers, and staff as we seek to be the fragrant aroma of Christ on NIU over the next 2+ weeks!

Hi Everyone, I asked one of our student leaders if she would share about her experience at IV's summer retreat held at the end of May. Here's what Deborah shared:

Many other college students and I were blessed to attend Intervarsity's summer retreat! I made so many wonderful memories at Hanging Rock Christian Camp in Indiana! One of my favorite parts of the retreat was my spontaneous decision to join the worship team since they were short a singer. I was a bit nervous, but since I lead worship at large group back at NIU, I felt confident that I could use my abilities to glorify my Savior Jesus Christ!

I grew a lot closer with my chapter, and I grew even closer with Jesus through many quiet times and messages! One message that stood out to me was all about the healing confession can bring. We were encouraged to confess any sin that we had been keeping hidden, and that night, our whole chapter applied the message by confessing deep sins, and we encouraged and loved each other through it all! I now find it so much easier to confess sin to my brothers and sisters in Christ, and I finally felt the freedom from sin that only Jesus can bring! I will never forget the impact Jesus made on my life through Intervarsity's summer retreat, and I am so excited to see how Jesus moves when we go back next year!

We love our ALUMNI! In late April, we had a dinner to honor those NIU IV alumni who could make it. Our heart for this night came true as alumni who love Jesus shared wisdom and their stories with our students and our students got to share how they had been growing in Christ through their involvement with our Huskie IV chapter. Stay tuned for the date of our next Alumni dinner, and please plan to attend if at all possible. It is biblical for the older men and women in the body of Christ to pour into the younger ones, and for the younger ones to delight and surprise their elders:)
1 Timothy 4:10-12 says, "For it is for this we labor and strive, because we have fixed our hope on the living God, who is the Savior of all men, especially of believers. Prescribe and teach these things. Let no one look down on your youthfulness, but rather in speech, conduct, love, faith and purity show yourself an example of those who believe." Amen! May we all live this way!

Hi Everybody,
I wanted to introduce myself as the new InterVarsity at NIU fb admin and the newest addition to our IV chapter's staff. I'm Dawn Hill and I've been volunteering since January. I have loved working with our students so much! God had been putting campus ministry on my heart for several years now and opened the door wide this past Winter and Spring. I'm in the process of building my ministry support team so I can officially go on staff part time mentoring our female leaders, helping with GIGs (God Investigation Groups) and assisting the group and Karl in whatever ways I can. If you're interested in finding out more about me, my bio is up on my donor page at https://givetoIV.org/dawnhill
I also blog at https://www.thehopefulbuttercup.com/qa-of-how-what-and-why-of-christian-faith and https://www.thehopefulbuttercup.com/inspiration
This picture is from our Spring outreach just before we had a guest pastor share on the evidences of the resurrection. Our interactive question was "Who was Jesus?" and we had many great conversations with students in the Student Union! Please pray for the seeds that were planted!

Wanted to share a photo of Annika and Karl Olsen being prayed over by some dear NIU IV Alumni. Karl came on staff to be our full time campus minister last fall and the Lord has anointed him and Annika with wisdom beyond their years, diligence to lead well and a deep love for our students. Thanks to all of you who support our chapter!

Hey everyone, just wanted to let you know what some of our NIU InterVarsity guys are doing to serve others with compassion!

Here's Will's story:
Hello I am Will. I'm a sophomore at NIU, an IV student leader as well as student assistant for the NIU Football team, and a member of the WeCare campus ministry!

Early last fall I was talking to friends and they were telling me about the WeCare Pregnancy Clinic and all the amazing work that they do. I knew immediately that I wanted to be apart of a campus ministry that works hard to spread the word about this Clinic so people attending NIU would know that they have so many more options than our world wants to give them. I met with Amber Hudson the outreach coordinator and staff and joined the group!

My time with WeCare has been amazing, we do tabling events where we have students play fun games to win a free coffee gift card as well as learn about the Clinic and the important resources they provide. One time I was tabling with Amber and we talked to a woman who's friend was pregnant as well as a male student who's younger sister will be attending in the fall and she asked her him that day what resources are available at NIU for her. It was by God's grace that these students just so happened to walk by our table and learn about what the clinic can do to help!

If you attend NIU or live in our area please consider getting involved or giving to WeCare.

NIU InterVarsity had a great time hiking, worshiping God and hanging out together with Rock Valley College's IV Chapter back in April.

Seeing this rock formation reminds me of Psalm 27:5
For in the day of trouble
he will keep me safe in his dwelling;
he will hide me in the shelter of his sacred tent
and set me high upon a rock.

Whether days are good or days are hard, our God is our refuge and our joy!

Filter of Hope Mission Trip
Over Spring Break this past March, a group of six students and myself went on a mission trip to Panama! We stayed in a hotel in Panama City, then each day traveled over an hour out from the city into more rural areas where we did home visits. We partnered with local churches that welcomed us to the local communities we were in and introduced us to families there. With the help of our translators, after meeting families, we installed water filters in their homes, then shared the gospel. By God's grace, our team of 27 installed 68 water filters and witnessed 30 individuals give their life to Christ!

One of my highlights from the week was our visit with the three women pictured above. It was fun to see Brayden installing the filter for this family and it was especially sweet to see Blessing share the gospel for the very first time. While we shared with these three ladies, it was evident that while they believed in God, none of them had, nor thought, that they could have a relationship with God due to their continual sin. Through sharing that by grace we have been saved through faith, and this is not our own doing, it is the gift of God (Eph. 2:8-9) they all understood the good news and received the free gift of salvation!
