As the weeks of summer come to a close, many of us launch into new rhythms at school, work, and home. Here in the Green Bay area, the NFL season kicks off. But God’s Word gives us the best “fresh start” of all—the forgiveness of our sins. Without forgiveness, we are sunk—all our relationships fall apart; worst of all, our relationship with God. But Jesus’ sacrifice for us changes everything! Because of Jesus, we live “debt free.” May God grant us grace to live gratefully in that freedom by extending forgiveness to those who sin against us.

This week's livestream is our Wednesday evening service. This Sunday, August 30 is our annual church picnic at Legion Park--we welcome you to join us for worship at 10am, followed by the picnic!

What unites us as the church? Our shared habits? Our preferred way of doing worship? Our agreement on the menu for our next potluck? Or something greater? It is easy to elevate our own preferences and desires at the expense of relationship, even in the church. As Paul counsels the church in Rome, he urges them to treat each other (Jews and Gentiles) graciously as people united by their shared connection to Jesus our Master. May God grant us His help to keep Jesus front and center in our life together so that His grace would permeate our relationships with one another.

In a world that prizes power and self-determination, the idea of submission sounds like weakness — but what if it’s actually the key to true freedom? This week, St. Paul helps us discover how the death and resurrection of Jesus turn the world’s strategies for victory completely upside down. We’ll explore why Paul — writing under the reign of emperors like Nero and Caligula — would dare to tell persecuted Christians to bless their enemies, honor governing authorities, and place others’ needs before their own. Join us as we examine the strangest revolution the world has ever seen, and find out why those who submit in faith are the ones who are truly free.

Our God is great beyond measure, and He has brought us into a story that is greater and more beautiful than we can imagine. In our reading from Romans 11 and 12, Paul moves us from praise to lives that move according to the beautiful new reality into which God has brought us. As we live as citizens of God’s Kingdom, we trust the Spirit to renew our minds and to use the gifts He supplies to point the world around us to the hope that we possess in Jesus.

Hope welcomes back Pastor Vern Heim as our guest preacher as we continue our summer journey through Paul’s letter to the Romans. In Romans 10, we hear that the good news is powerful–and God’s people are meant to speak it. It’s not about what you can’t do… It’s about what you can do!
