There is much to be sorrowful about in the world today. Satan will use such opportunities to crush our heart with fear, anxiety, sadness, shame, and discouragement, especially if we leave it unguarded. Some will try to heal these feelings with hardness of heart, turning a blind eye, or drugs, alcohol, pills, food, work, secularized counseling, and many other failings.
While sleep, good health, and some physical and mental assistance is no doubt essential, the only way to protect our hearts is with truth, faith, the hope of our salvation, and the peace that comes from God which is constantly reminded to us through the gospel. The battleground for the heart is ultimately rooted in the spiritual realm first and foremost. You must understand its source, and you must avail yourself to the remedy that is freely provided, though it came at a great cost!
Think on these passages today and find strength in the Holy Spirit:
“Watch over your heart with all diligence, For from it flow the springs of life.” (Proverbs 4:23)
“Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.” (Ephesians 6:10–11)
“But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to fulfill its lusts.” (Romans 13:14)
“Therefore, having these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.” (2 Corinthians 7:1)
“For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.” (2 Timothy 1:7)
“There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear....” (1 John 4:18)
