The latest update on Pastor Steve ❤️
5-16-26
Earlier this week, the plastics team surprised us with the decision to return to surgery on Friday, May 15, to repair a small area on Pastor Steve’s left calf muscle. During the procedure, they used something called BTM (Biodegradable Temporizing Matrix), which is a special synthetic skin substitute designed to help rebuild tissue when muscle, tendon, or bone has been exposed after a severe injury or burn.
The surgery was successful, and the doctors are very pleased with the outcome. While there will likely still be a few more grafting procedures ahead, we are definitely beginning to see the light at the end of the tunnel.
While in surgery, the team also decided to move forward with several additional procedures that had originally been planned for a later time. They were able to advance the flap over the Achilles for better coverage, as well as cover the top of the foot and a toe joint. The reports on all procedures have been very positive, with strong blood flow and healthy circulation throughout.
Pastor Steve is now able to sit on the side of the bed and let his legs hang naturally, allowing gravity and circulation to begin working together as part of the healing process. The doctors are closely monitoring thousands of tiny blood vessels that are working hard to maintain proper balance and blood flow, and everything continues to look healthy and right on track.
The doctors remain encouraged and positive about the progress being made, and we continue to see healing and improvement each day. We truly feel like we are watching Jeremiah 33 unfold before our eyes.
On Monday, we will begin a more aggressive phase of rehab as the team starts working toward a plan for coming home. We do not yet know exact dates, but hearing those conversations begin is such an incredible blessing and answer to prayer.
Thank you again for every prayer, message, act of kindness, and constant covering over our family. We truly serve a mighty God, and we are so thankful for each of you walking this journey with us.
With love and thankful hearts,
Steve & Mechele
