What makes us right with God—what we accomplish, or what we believe?

In Romans 4, Paul brings Abraham into the conversation to prove something powerful: righteousness by faith was always God’s way.

Abraham had credentials. He had history. He had a covenant relationship with God. Yet Scripture says Abram believed God, and God counted him as righteous—before his name became Abraham and before circumcision became the outward sign.

Then Paul brings in David, who reminds us of the joy of having our sins forgiven and our record cleared.

The message is clear:

RIGHTEOUSNESS IS NOT A WAGE WE EARN. IT IS A GIFT WE RECEIVE BY FAITH.

Your credentials cannot save you.
Your good deeds cannot make God indebted to you.
Your accomplishments cannot make you more righteous than someone else.

Abraham believed God. David experienced forgiveness. And both point us back to GRACE.

Join us for Lessons with Grace as we continue making Romans make sense—and apply its truth to how we live.
