The tower of Babel story (Gen 11:4) is about building up themselves and their name to avoid the mission God called them to--increase and fill the earth (Gen 1:28, 9:1). We still build monuments today that help us avoid the mission of God (Matt 28:18-20) but the Spirit empowers us for faithfulness (Acts 1:8, 2:1-13).

So, which will we choose? Build monument to promote our name or join the mission to proclaim His Name?

Lord, grant me opportunities to proclaim your Name in word and deed, the grace to represent you well, and the faith to follow where you lead. Amen.
