Missions Sunday
Elder Tony Simmons
"I've Changed"

Sermon Notes:

Luke 15:11-32
John 9:10-11,15,25
*"You might not be able to explain your life transformation, but you can say that you known that your life has been changed."
*Just like the blind man who Jesus healed, how the Lord has healed us and changed us often times cannot be explained. But in our hearts we know that we are now different. We have been changed.
*Returning to the prodigal son, this parable is an example of our relationship with God. All of us have sinned and gone our own way, after the lusts of our own flesh. But God still loves us and patiently waits for us to return to Him.
Ephesians 2:1-3
1 Corinthians 6:9-11
*We all were dead in sin, and none of us is better than another. We were all condemned to death as punishment for our sins. But God had mercy on us and loved us, and He sent Jesus to die for us, save us, and give us new lives in Him.
*We may not yet be perfect, but we are not what we used to be. Jesus is taking us to perfection.
2 Corinthians 5:17
*In Christ, you have been changed into a brand-new creation. Don't let the devil tempt you to doubt your change! He will try to remind you of your sinful past and make you doubt that you can truly will a new-life. Don't listen to him! Believe in the finished work of Jesus Christ, and rely on Him to continually change you!

"Double-Life"

Sermon Notes:

Genesis 2:7-8
*"My life needs God."
*"Are you "alive", but not "living"?"
*We have double-life. When God formed man from the dust of the ground, he had nature life. When He breathe in to his nostrils, he had spiritual life.
*"We have two nostrils. When we inhale, that's the spirit-man. When we exhale, that's the natural man."
*"There nothing worse than having a stuffed-up nostril."

John 10:10
*Jesus came that we have life in this life and the next.

1 Timothy 4:8-10
*"God made us in His image so when He talked to us He could talk to Himself." In the same way, God made the woman in the image of man so when Adam talked to her, he could talk to himself.
*"You have to learn how to talk to yourself. You have to learn how to preach to yourself." David encouraged himself in the Lord his God [1 Samuel 30:6].
*By faith, you have to learn to agree with yourself. You cannot command the mountains to move if you are not fully convinced in your own heart [Mark 11:22-24].

Jude 1:20-21
*When you pray in the Holy Spirit, we speak directly to God and encourage ourselves [1 Corinthians 14:2-4].

1 Timothy 6:17-19
*Poverty is of the curse. God doesn't want His children to be poor.
*God will give earthly riches to those whose hearts are not set on them, but on Him [Psalm 62:9-11]. In other words, God will only give money to those whose money is not their god. "You cannot serve God and mammon" [Matthew 6:24].
*God wants us to enjoy this life and our future lives in eternity.

1 Corinthians 15:19-21
*Jesus Christ is our living hope for eternal life. If there is no resurrection and no eternal life, everything we do here on earth would be meaningless.
*Those who refuse to accept Christ do not have double-life. They only have an earthly life and spiritual death [Revelation 20:11-15].

Luke 12:12-15
*Life is not about gaining possessions, but honoring God. "Godliness with contentment is great gain." [1 Timothy 6:6].

Luke 18:28-30
*Again, we see that Jesus came for us to have abundant life with Him, both in earth and in Heaven.

Genesis 12:1-3
*God wants to bless us so we can bless others.
*Proverbs 3:9-10 say, "Honour the Lord with thy substance, and with the firstfruits of all thine increase: so shall thy barns be filled with plenty, and thy presses shall burst out with new wine." We are to honor the Lord will all that we possess.
