Vine & Branches Fellowship

Vine & Branches Fellowship Together, as the Household of Faith, we are on mission to know, declare, and follow Jesus Christ. Statements of Faith:
I.

THE WORD OF GOD
We believe that the Bible is the Word of God, containing the Old and New Testaments, fully inspired and
without error in the original manuscripts, written under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, and that it has
supreme authority in all matters of faith and conduct. It cannot be added to, subtracted from, or superseded in
any regard. The Bible is the source of all doctrine, instru

ction, correction, and reproof.
2 Timothy 3:16; 2 Peter 1:20-21; Mark 13:31; John 8:31-32; John 20:31; Acts 20:32

II. THE TRINITY
We believe that there is one living and true God, existing eternally and harmoniously in three persons: God the
Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, the Three being equal in every divine perfection. Genesis 1:1, 26; John 1:1-3; Matthew 28:19; John 4:24; Romans 1:19-20; Ephesians 4:5-6
GOD THE FATHER
We believe in God the Father, the Creator and Sustainer of heaven and earth, infinite in wisdom and
holiness, measureless in power. He concerns Himself mercifully in the affairs of mankind; He hears and
answers prayers; and He saves from sin and death all who come to Him through Jesus Christ. In love,
He created man in His own image and, after the rebellion and fall of man, He called man back to
Himself through Christ. Matthew 6:9-15; 23:9; Luke 10:21-22; 15:11-32; John 3:16-17; 6:27; Romans 1:7;
2 Corinthians 5:17-21; I Timothy 1:1-2; 2:5, 6; 1 Peter 1:3; Revelation 1:6
JESUS CHRIST
We believe that Jesus Christ is eternally God. He is the image of the invisible God and in Him all
things hold together. He is the begotten Son of God, the Word made flesh. We believe in His virgin birth,
sinless life, miracles, and teachings. We believe in His substitutionary atoning death, bodily resurrection,
ascension into heaven, perpetual intercession for His people, and coming personal and glorious return to
earth. Isaiah 53:1-6; Matthew 1:18-25; Luke 1:26-38; John 1:1; 20:28; Romans 9:5; 8:32;
2 Corinthians 5:21; 1 Peter 2:21-23; John 20:30, 31; Matthew 20:28; Ephesians 1:4; Acts 1:11; Romans
5:6-8; 6:9-10; Colossians 1:15-20; Hebrews 7:25; Hebrews 9:28; 1 Timothy 3:16
THE HOLY SPIRIT
We believe in the Holy Spirit who was sent from the Father and Son to convict the world of sin,
righteousness, and judgment, and to regenerate, sanctify, and empower all who believe in Jesus Christ. We believe that the Holy Spirit indwells every believer in Christ, and that He is our abiding Helper,
Teacher, and Guide. We believe that the Holy Spirit has the fullness of gifts to bestow upon believers
and that these gifts are to operate in a way that edifies the Church. Likewise, the Holy Spirit works in
believers to produce spiritual fruit in order that the Church would display true Christlikeness toward one
another and to the world. John 14:16, 17, 26; 15:26, 27; John 16:9-14; Acts 1:8; Acts 2:4; Romans 8:9;
1 Corinthians 3:16; 6:19; 12-14; Galatians 5:22-26

III. SALVATION THROUGH GRACE
We believe that man was created by God in His own image; that man sinned and thereby incurred physical,
spiritual, and eternal death, which is separation from God; that as a consequence, all human beings are born
with a sinful nature and therefore under condemnation. We believe that man is created in the image of God but,
by voluntary disobedience, fell from perfection—thereby permeating humanity with sinfulness. Yet, while we
were still sinners, Christ died for us—pardoning all who believe in Him. We, therefore, believe that salvation is
God’s gift to us, not based on man’s merit, but through faith in the atoning work of Jesus on the cross. Upon sincere repentance and a wholehearted acceptance of Christ and the work of his cross, we are justified before God. We believe that a genuine change takes place in people who accept Christ as Savior; Christ’s life is now
to be lived in and through the one who is born-again. Genesis 3; Isaiah 53:4-6; 64:6; John 3:14-17; Romans 3:23; 5:8-12; 6:23; 8:1; 10:8-10;
2 Cor. 5:17; Ephesians 2:1-10; Galatians 2:16, 20; Titus 3:4-5; 1 John 1:9

IV. THE CHURCH
We believe there is one Church, the Body and Bride of Christ, consisting of believers from every tribe, tongue,
people, and nation. The mission of the Church is both external and internal and includes both word and deed. Externally, the Church is to proclaim the saving grace of Jesus Christ to a lost world and to impact its
community for the glory of God as His ambassadors to the world. Internally, the Church is to make disciples;
equipping and teaching believers to walk daily with God, abide in His word, and live in fellowship with one
another. Matthew 28:18-20; John 13:34; Acts 1:8; Acts 2:42; Romans 12:9-21; Ephesians 2:19-22; 5:19-21; Hebrews
10:23-25; 1 John 3:16

V. THE CHRISTIAN LIFE
We believe that a Christian should live for the glory of God and the well-being of his fellow man; that his
conduct should be blameless and pure before the world; that he should be a faithful steward of his possessions;
and that he should avoid the extremes of fanaticism and pursue a life of balance, gentleness, humility, and
maturity in Christ.
1 Corinthians 10:31; Romans 12:1-3; Hebrews 12:1-2; John 14:15, 23-24; 1 John 2:3-6; 2 Corinthians 9:6-9; 1
Corinthians 4:2; Colossians 1:9-10

VI. THE ORDINANCES
We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ has committed two ordinances to the local church: Baptism and the Lord& #39;s
Supper. We believe that Christian baptism is the immersion of the believer into water in the name of the Father,
the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Baptism is an outward sign of the inward work of new life in Christ and not a
means unto salvation. We believe that the Lord& #39;s Supper was given to us by Christ so that we would partake in
fellowship with Him and unity with one another. Together, then, we pause to remember and declare Christ’s
sacrificial death until He returns, while also examining our own hearts and lives in light of Christ’s saving work. Matthew 28:18-20; Romans 6:3-5; 1 Corinthians 10:16-17; 1 Corinthians11:23-26

VII. SANCTITY OF LIFE AND MARRIAGE
We believe that human life is sacred, with value and dignity, from conception to its natural end; and that we
must care for the physical and spiritual needs of our fellowmen. We believe that God wonderfully and immutably creates each person as male or female. These two distinct,
complementary genders together reflect the image and nature of God. We believe that the term “marriage” has only one meaning: the uniting of one man and one woman in a single,
exclusive union, as defined in Scripture. We believe that God commands sexual intimacy to occur only between
a man and a woman who are married to each other. Genesis 1:26-27; Genesis 2:18-25; Psalm 139:13-16; 1 Cor 6:18; 7:2-5; Heb 13:4; Matt 15:18-20; 1 Cor 6:9-10;
Matt 5:16; Phil 2:14-16; 1 Thes. 5:22; Mark 12:28-31; Luke 6:31

VIII. THE LAST THINGS
We believe in the personal, glorious, and imminent return of the Lord Jesus Christ to earth and the
establishment of His kingdom. We believe in the resurrection of the body and the final judgment. We believe
that hell is the literal place of eternal torment and separation from God for all who reject Christ as Savior and
that heaven is the eternal home and joy of those who have embraced Christ as Savior. Matthew 16:27; Mark 14:62; John 14:3; Acts 1:11; Philippians 3:20; 1 Thessalonians 4:15;
2 Timothy 4:1; Titus 2:13; 1 Corinthians 4:5; 1 Corinthians 15; 2 Thessalonians 1:7-10;
Revelation 20:4-6, 11-15

Remember: HE IS RISEN! On the third day, Christ rose from the grave! In the morning, women came to the tomb where Jesus was buried to put in perfumes and take care of the grave for yesterday was Sabbath. When the women came to the tomb, they saw that the tomb was empty and an angel asked them who they were looking for since the one they came to see was no longer there. When the women heard this, they ran back to the disciples to tell them what happened. According to the Gospel of John, John and Peter ran to the tomb and they entered it to see that the tomb was empty and only the clothes remained. Jesus was Risen!

Reflect: Matthew 28:1-20; Mark 16:1-20; Luke 24:1-53; John 20:1-21:25

Pray: You are amazing, God! You have raised Your Son! You have kept your promise, and You have defeated Death! Let us not forget that we are saved through You; that You are the Risen Savior and our Lord. Thank You Lord for saving me. Amen.

Remember: What happened in the grave? On this day, it is not written in the Bible, but we have creeds and teachings we can rely on. The Apostle’s Creed states that Jesus “... suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried; He descended into hell; on the third day He rose again from the dead…” You may see this and ask “What does the creed mean by ‘hell’?”

The word hell can be misleading here. You see, hell can be many places described in the Bible. It can refer to Hades or Tartarus, Sheol, or the Lake of Fire. In the time of Jesus, it was meant to portray just the place of the Dead: Sheol. Sheol had two areas in it: paradise (Abraham’s Bosom/SIde) and a place of judgment. These two sections of Sheol are separated by a Great Chasm (Luke 16:26). When Jesus died, He did not go to the place of judgment, but went to paradise where He told the thief on the cross He would see him. Jesus waited there for His body to be resurrected. Sin had been conquered, the veil was torn, and we were reconciled with God on the Cross.

Reflect: Matthew 11:23, 12:40, 16:18; Jonah 2:2,6; Psalm 22; Luke 10:15, 16:22-26, 23:43; Acts 2:27-31

Pray: Lord Jesus, Your death on the cross was the final say in our separation from God. You went into paradise and did not suffer again as all the suffering was done on the cross. You are the Savior we need. You are Lord of all. We praise You, Jesus. Amen

Remember: IT IS FINISHED! Today started early, or one may say that yesterday never ended. For into the night, Jesus went to pray and as midnight crossed over the horizon, so did the trials of Christ. As you read through these trials, denials, and tortures, let us focus on what Christ has done. The NIV catches in Matt. 27:15-23 another Jesus. In this section, Pilate had the tradition of releasing one prisoner during Passover. As we all know, Jesus Christ was put with a man named Barabbas, but did you know Barabbas’ full name was Jesus Barabbas? His name literally translated means “YHWH is salvation” (Jesus) and “Son of the father” (Barabbas). On that stage we had 2 people named Jesus: one that was the Savior we know today, and another that was the idea of the savior the people of Israel had in mind. On that day, the people of Israel chose one that was a known criminal and rebel. One that they thought if the Savior was to go to war and defeat Rome, then that is the one they wanted to save.

Oh how far and fast we went from Hosanna to Heretic. They praised Christ as He came into the Holy City, but the moment He does not meet their expectations, then He is no longer welcome; let us choose what we think best.

Remember today, that after Barabbas was chosen, Christ suffered a torture that no one could endure and survive to carry a roughly 100 pound cross for almost half a mile only to be hung by it for hours. Jesus endured this gruesome death for US! He, who knew no sin, became sin for us. He lifted His head and said “Eli, Eli, lema sabachthani?” which means “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?” His cry to God was also a reflection of David in Psalm 22 who asked the same question. After this, Christ released His spirit, and He was taken to be buried in a tomb that was sealed. The War on Death was waged.

Reflect: Matthew 26:47-27:61; Mark 14:43- 15:47; Luke 22:47-23:54; John 18:2-19:42

Pray: Lord, You came and died a horrible death so that we can be reconciled to the Father. You died so that we were no longer separated from You. You came to meet us in our iniquities and cleansed us. You have given us salvation, please let us never forget this gift of grace and mercy. Amen.

Remember: All the disciples were invited and came to the Last Supper. This included Judas. In this, Jesus washed the disciples’ feet. This act of service was for the lower class and not for someone of Jesus’ stature and authority. However, Jesus took to his knees and washed the soles of His disciples’ feet, even Judas. Judas, whom He knew would betray Him. Who at the table asked Jesus “Is it my, Rabbi?” Judas did not see Jesus as Lord and Savior, but only a good teacher, while all the rest asked “Is it me, Lord?” Jesus did not turn away Judas, but invited him in to sit by His side and to sup with Him. Jesus invites us also, even though we are sinners, to come nearer to Him and to sit at His table. Will you accept the invitation?

Reflect: Matthew 26:26-46; Mark 14:17-26, 32-42; Luke 22:14-30, 39-46; John 13:1-17:26

Pray: Lord, thank You for showing us how to serve. Thank You for giving us the Lord’s Supper as a remembrance of Your sacrifice. Thank You for giving us many chances and being forgiving and loving towards us even when we fail. Your love knows no bounds. I love You, Lord. Amen.

Remember: How much is the Savior worth to you? To Judas, Jesus was worth only 30 pieces of silver. This is the same price that a slave was worth in Exodus 21:32. Let us not forget that Judas was a disciple of Jesus and he still betrayed Christ. Remember to cling close to Christ and not to lean on your own understanding.

Reflect: Exodus 21:32; Matthew 26:3-5, 14-25; Mark 14:1-2, 10-16; Luke 21:37- 22:1-2, 22:7-13

Pray: Lord, thank You for the grace and mercy You have shown me. Let me not forget that it is only by this grace and sacrifice that I have the ability to be in relationship with You. You have shown the greatest of loves in that You gave Your own Son for us. Thank You, Lord. Amen.

Remember: In this section of scriptures, Jesus rebukes the Pharisees and their followers for being hypocrites. Jesus gives many parables of those who will enter the gates of Heaven, the end times, and those that follow God’s word. He states that the Pharisees are like the son who said he would do the work and did not. He brought about the rebuke the Pharisees desperately needed, but they did not receive it well. In this, they only conspired more to entrap Jesus and to kill Him.

Reflect: Matthew 21:18 to 25:46; Mark 11:12-14, 11:20-13:37; Luke: 20:1-21:36

Pray: Lord Jesus, let me not be like a Pharisee. Give me the strength to follow You and obey You in Your commands. Change my heart to align with You so that I can follow you fully. Amen.

Remember: On this Holy Monday, Jesus went to the Temple and saw that it was being defiled by the money changers who were selling animals to sacrifice before God. Except, these were crooked people who would tell travellers that the animal they had brought to sacrifice was not a proper animal (had a blemish, was not big enough, etc.) and they would sell them one of theirs. When the sale was complete, it is believed that these people would then take the same animal that they stated was not good enough and sell it to another traveller. This angered Jesus and Jesus went to clean out the temple of this wickedness. He made a cord of three strands and flipped over the tables that were used for this deception.

We must remember that just as Jesus cleaned out the wickedness from the Temple, He will do the same to our hearts if we receive His free gift.

Reflect: Matthew 21:12-17; Mark 11:15-19; Luke 19:45-46

Pray: Lord, just as David asked you to create a clean heart in him, I ask you to create one in me. One that is repulsed by impurities and sin. Lord, I love you for your salvation and for your grace. May I never forget the kindness that you have shown. Amen.

Happy Holy Week! This week, we will take time to remember Christ and His sacrifice for us.

Remember: On this Palm Sunday, Jesus was welcomed into the Holy City Jerusalem with cries of Hosanna, which means as an exclamation of “save us”. The people of Jerusalem were looking for a conquering king to save them physically from the Romans. However, they received the Son of Man who came to save their souls from Hell.

Reflect: Matthew 21:1-12; Mark 11:1-11; Luke 19:28-44; John 12:12-36

Pray: Lord, thank You for Your triumphal entry. Thank You for being our Savior and Redeemer. You answered our cry of Hosanna to the fullest and have given us the gift of life in You. Thank You, Lord. Amen
