Queen of Apostles Community

Queen of Apostles Community Join us for Mass on Sunday at 10:30 AM In so doing, we proclaim our willingness to build a community of love and to be the holy people God calls us to be.

From a Marianist Community of student brothers open to visitors for Sunday Eucharist,
Queen of Apostles Community emerged as a non-territorial parish on August 28, 1973. Continuing in the tradition of the Marianist Charism, we come together each week as a family of Catholic, Christian believers, to worship our God in the Eucharist with song & praise and to share in the breaking of the Bread. If yo

u are visiting and worshiping with us for the first time, we extend to you our warmest welcome. Our prayer is that your worship experience will be uplifting and Spirit filled. We hope you will visit us often and worship with us!

Good Afternoon QAC Family!

The bulletin for our last liturgy as a QAC parish is on the website. I hope you like the cover and especially the poem by Steve Guilfoos on the back page.

Tomorrow’s Eucharist service will be at our usual 10:30am time – preceded at 10:00am by praying the Rosary for Peace. When you arrive, be sure to get your bulletin – which you want to take home with you – and also pick up a candle which will be used at the end of mass. Perhaps you will want to wear a QAC sweatshirt or other QAC shirts you’ve got hanging in your closet. 😊

Tomorrow’s potluck will start right after liturgy in Si Lounge. You may drop off food to the Si Lounge Kitchen beginning at 9:30am. Be sure to label your dishes and collect them after the meal.

Dear QAC, Thank you very, very much for your generous Christmas gift to me this year and over the years. You have all been a great gift to me. I am glad that I will be able to continue with many of you in the “Spiritus” community. I’m looking forward to participation in a new adventure as the “Spiritus” community. May our gracious God continue to bless us in the New Year of 2024! Fr. Tom Schroer, SM

Tom Quakenbush has many friends on Facebook but reports that his account has been hacked – he did not send you a friend request.

Please remember our community members who are unable to attend liturgy. Thank you for praying for them as well as the following:

Don Murphy, the brother of Bro. Dave Murphy, SM, who is suffering complications following a heart attack he had on December 26th. Intention submitted by Bro. Dave Murphy, SM (Chambers Street Marianist Community, Dayton, Ohio).

…and our sister who has gone before us and whose name is now written in the Book of Life…

Eleanor Smith (Troy, New York), the mother of former Marianist, Edward Smith, who entered into eternal life on December 18th at the blessed age of 101. Intention submitted by Edward Smith (Rancho Mirage, California).

This is my last “official” note on behalf of QAC. It’s been a pleasure compiling your announcements and prayer requests for the past three plus year and this email address will continue for a short time in the new year. May God richly bless you with peace, love, joy, and happiness in 2024!

Good Morning QAC Family!

Thank you for looking over these important announcements and prayer requests below.

Potluck this Sunday! As you know, Sunday (Dec. 31st) will be our last Mass at QAC. It will be followed by a big potluck in Si Lounge. So, of course, I need your help to set up the tables and chairs and do some prep at 10:00am on Saturday morning (30th). If you can lend a hand, I would be most grateful.

On Sunday, food can be dropped off before Liturgy beginning at 9:30am or afterwards. We will have a couple of honey baked hams and turkey but anything you want to bring will be fine – meats, vegetables, salads, desserts – all kinds are welcome and everyone is welcome! If you are bringing a gluten free or vegetarian dish, be sure to have it labeled as such.

Request from Mary Rice: Our foster daughter, Aliyah, is looking to buy her first car. Her budget is about $4000. We’re trying to help her find a solid reliable car. I thought I would start with our QAC/Spiritus family. Please let me know if you have a car you’re selling or know of someone who is. Thank you, Mary Rice ,937-760-1942

SPIRITUS Donations: Everything is in place for the new US to begin receiving donations. You may make checks out to SPIRITUS. If sending checks by mail: SPIRITUS, 4400 Shakertown Rd, Beavercreek, OH 45430

If you would like your bank to do all the work (and even use their stamp), it is fairly easy to set up payments on most banks. Another great feature is “Autopay” to set a schedule of your choosing to automatically mail donations. If you need help, Tom McCrate will gladly assist you (937-602-2481). Thanks, Spiritus Interim Leadership Team

We ask your prayers for the following:

Carolyn Wittmann, the mother of Fr. Chris Wittmann, SM, who appears to have entered the final days of her life on earth. Prayers for a peaceful death are requested. Also, for her husband, Tom, and for the entire family at this time. Intention submitted by Fr. Chris Wittmann, SM, (Kalaepohaku Marianist Community, Honolulu, Hawaii).

Brother and sisters who have gone before us and whose names are now written in the Book of Life…

JoAnn Casagrande Ploeger (Fort Thomas, Kentucky), the sister-in-law of Bro. Bernie Ploeger, SM, who entered into eternal life on December 26th at the blessed age of 86. Intention submitted by Bro. Bernie Ploeger, SM (Maryland Ave. Marianist Community, St. Louis, Missouri).

Angela Dill (St. Louis, Missouri), the sister-in-law of Tina Weber, who entered into eternal life on December 26th after a long battle with cancer. Intention submitted by Tina Weber (Province offices, St. Louis, Missouri).

Robert E. “Bob” Knoblauch (Omaha, Nebraska), a Marianist Affiliate, who entered into eternal life on December 23rd. Intention submitted by Fr. Al McMenemy, SM (Marianist Residence, San Antonio, Texas).

Thank you and have a blessed day! Marti Quakenbush

Good Afternoon QAC Family,

The program is on the website for our Christmas Eve Liturgy – 4:00pm, December 24th . This beautiful service will begin with music by both our awesome QAC choir and us in the congregation. Come early to get a good seat and be prepared to join in the music and the Eucharist.

And – this special prayer request has just come in for Emmy (Hamilton) Rucci, the former Regional Coordinator of Marianist LIFE, her husband, Mike, and their unborn child who are experiencing some complications with the pregnancy. Intention submitted by Fr. Bob Jones, SM (Chambers Street Marianist Community, Dayton, Ohio.)

Thank you and see you at QAC! Have a blessed afternoon!

Good afternoon QAC Family! Just a few announcements today…

Deacon Greg is now at St Leonard Health Center/Rehabilitation in Room 109. Visitors would be welcome. He is at dialysis on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays so don’t visit between 10:00am and 4:00pm on those days.

Steve Guilfoos: At the Marianist celebration this past Sunday of 50 years of Queen of Apostles as a parish, I gave framed copies of my poem, Marian Prayer, to Fr Oscar, Fr Tim, and Fr Tom. I want to share it with all of you. (Attached)

As with all my 40 years of writing poetry, I freely share them with the implied permission to use the poems in any way you deem appropriate. If you wish to receive my poetry, free of charge, in the future please send me your email address (send to [email protected]) and I will add you to my email distribution. The poems come with a non-exclusive license. If you are already receiving my poems by email, you don’t have to do anything as you are already on my distribution. As a side note, I am beginning to create anthologies of my older poetry (almost 40 years worth !!). You will only be able to get these by joining my email distribution. Again – there is no cost to you. Thanks for your support, Steve

This Saturday will be the 1st Eucharist celebration at 4:00pm followed by a light supper in Si Lounge. Amie Herbert and I could use your help to set the tables and chairs for the supper. If you can, please meet at 10:00am Saturday morning at Si Lounge. Many thanks make the job really easy and fast. Thank you!

In case you missed it, the National Wreaths Across America Day was last Saturday, Dec. 16. If you enter Mt. St. John from Shakertown Road, look to the right to the Queen of Heaven cemetery. Beautiful Christmas wreaths have been placed on the graves of brothers and priests who served our nation’s military.

Peg Barnhart, one of our former choir directors, lost a daughter on Friday. Jamie was the mother of Monique Cooper, Peg’s granddaughter, who also came to QAC. Peg, Monique and the rest of the family are truly struggling right now. Please lift them up in prayer. Katie Metzmaier

Nancy Davies (St. Louis, Missouri), a long-time Lay Marianist and dear friend of the Marianists, who will have surgery on January 3rd. This is a serious surgery and will require a difficult recovery. Intention submitted by Terry Eversole (Province office, St. Louis, Missouri).

Thanks for reading through these announcements. Thanks also for praying for all in need – especially from our QAC Community. Have a blessed evening!

Marti Quakenbush

P.S. The missing white folding table has been located and returned to Si Lounge.

Good evening QAC Family!

The bulletin for tomorrow’s Eucharist is on the website. As always, find the group in the vestibule to pray the Rosary for Peace at 10:00am and then join in the liturgy at 10:30am. Thank you for lifting up the following in your kind thoughts of love and prayers:

Please ask for prayers of thanksgiving to God from the Community for successful facial surgery for the complete removal of a cancerous growth near my son’s eye. He lives in California and we are all very grateful that, despite the current appearance, they were able to “get it all” and he can look forward to a complete recovery. Philllis Hamilton

Please send out a prayer request for Deacon Greg who is in Soin Hospital. He’s OK. He fell and they will keep him for a few days to manage the pain. He will then go to rehab at St Leonard’s where he will be moving into assisted living..

Nancy Klco, the sister-in-law of Bro. Dan Klco, SM, who has a recurrence of cancer. Intention submitted by Bro. Dan Klco, SM (Woodlawn Community, San Antonio, Texas)

Thank you for the prayers for our granddaughter Avery, who along with her dog Beanie, was attacked by two pit bulls earlier this week. While there may be some nerve damage to her hand and a hairline fracture in her wrist, they do expect a good recovery for both. Thanks be to God! Marti & Tom Q.

Please pray for Linda Skinner and her family. Her sister Karen passed away last Wednesday after a long battle with heart issues.

We received word that Father Raymond Larger’s mother, Virginia Larger, passed away last evening, Thursday, December 13, 2023, at the age of 98. Her funeral Mass will be on Monday, December 18 at 10:30 AM at St. Michael Church, Fort Loramie, OH. Visitation will be on Sunday afternoon, December 17 from 3:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the Gehret Funeral Home, 61 Elm Street, Fort Loramie, 45845.

Thank you and have a blessed evening! Marti Quakenbush

Good afternoon QAC Family!

Thank you for taking time to lift up those listed below in your loving thoughts and prayers…and reading the announcements too.

We ask your prayers for Linda Skinner as she travels to be with her sister Karen who is in an induced coma, and it is not looking good. In addition, please keep Joe and Emily Skinner who are traveling to be with Emily’s brother (his name is Joey) who was rushed to the ER last night.

Also, our granddaughter, Avery and her dog Beanie were attacked on Sunday by two pit bulls. Avery is an arts teacher and right-handed that hand took the brunt of the attack on her. We don’t yet know the extent of the injuries to her hand until she can see a specialist. Beanie is in a cast but should be okay. Please pray for their healing and for the children of the owners of the pit bulls as their dogs have been removed.

Picture! Picture! This Sunday, on December 17th, please bring a picture of a favorite special event for you or your family that took place in the Chapel sometime in the past 50 years. Together we will create a visual display of our memories for all to enjoy. There will be boards mounted on easels for you to affix your pictures. Blue tack will be provided so you can easily attach photos and remove them afterwards. Looking forward to sharing our memories!

The Marian Prayer Poem by Steve Guilfoos: For anyone who would like a copy of the poem he gave to Fr. Ted last Sunday, and which will be gifted to Fr Oscar, Fr Tim, and Fr Tom during the announcements this Sunday, please send your email address to Steve at [email protected] – he will add you to his distribution email list.

Folding Table and 4’ Tables: We are anxiously awaiting the return of the folding table (email message this morning) and have since discovered the two 4’ tables (one white, one brown) are missing as well. Please return them to Si Lounge asap. They are not items that are “up for grabs.”

Members from other Marianist communities have asked us to pray for the following:

Marciana Flores Penáloza, the aunt of Bro. Esteban Reyes, SM, who is battling stomach cancer. Intention submitted by Bro. Esteban Reyes, SM (The Marianists, Cape May Point, New Jersey).

6-year-old kindergartener, a student in the class of Stacy Castro (Pat Stephens’ daughter), who has been diagnosed with leukemia. Intention submitted by Pat Stephens (Province office, St. Louis, Missouri).

…our brothers who have gone before us and whose names are now written in the Book of Life…

Lawrence “Larry” Kraft (St. Louis, Missouri) a former Marianist (vow class of 1957) who entered into eternal life on December 4th at the blessed age of 85. Intention submitted by Bro. Ed Loch, SM (Marianist Residence, San Antonio, Texas).

The Region of Italy recommends to our fraternal prayers our dear brother, Tarcisio RIMOLDI, of the Marianist Santa Maria Community, Rome, Italy, who died in the service of the Blessed Virgin Mary on December 12, 2023, in Rome, Italy, at the age of 94 with 78 years of religious profession.

Thank you again for reading all the way through this email and in gratitude for your prayers,

Marti Quakenbush

Good Morning QAC Family!

Happy St. Nicholas Day! Hope you’ve been good this year – perhaps St. Nick left some treats for you…

In the spirit of giving, please find the lists below* of the items quested for our Giving Tree. Bring your donations on Sunday and place them in (or near) the baskets by the “Charlie Brown Tree.” There are still many ornaments on the tree. Thank you for your generosity and if you can, take an extra ornament or two.

The whole Woeste family was able to be with us for liturgy the Sunday after Thanksgiving. John spoke to the congregations but without a microphone, most of us could not hear what he was expressing. This is John’s moving tribute to QAC: “Nancy and I brought three visitors today, our kids Rachel, Kevin, and Michelle. They were all home for Thanksgiving and wanted to go to regular Sunday mass at QAC one more time because it is where Nancy and I first went to mass together. It’s where we got married. It’s where all three of them were baptized, and it is where they first experienced Sunday mass and a community of faith.

So thank you to everyone here for being such a great experience of Sunday mass for over 50 years, and for being a great experience of a faith community for God only knows how many more years to come!”

P.S. Our son Kevin found a sub for his job as music director at Saint Leonard’s that Sunday, just so that he could come to mass with us. Also funny: he had already selected Soon and Very Soon as the closing song at Saint Leonard’s the following Sunday! John Woeste
